The print out that I received has the Following Info:
Troubleshooting P0410
Definition:secondary air injection system fault.
Explanation: the air injection system is monitored for fautls.
Proble causes:
1. Circuit relay defective or fuse open
2. Check connector and wiring
3. Air pump defective or hosed blocked.
My baby has 55,000 mi runs and starts fined.
any advice where to start, or similar problems >
Thanks

Check the check valves that are positioned above each exhaust manifold. They screw into the metal tubes which attach to each manifold. A rubber hose is attached to the end of each valve.

They have a tendency to rust. They are designed to let air from the AIR pump travel down the metal tubes into the exhaust manifolds and the added oxygen causes any unburned gases to ignite and travel out through the exhaust system.

Sometimes the inside of the check valve falls apart and exhaust gases travel the wrong way: into the rubber hose and into the AIR pump.

You just have to love new OBD systems. I had a code once in my 97 camaro miss detected in #6 cylinder, coil checked out and followed plug wire down and found a area of the plug wire that was blistered and when I twisted it the plug wire broke in half. Replaced the plug wire and car ran great again. Nice how the new OBD pin points problems especially a driveability issue.

Good point. I remember when OBDII first hit the streets in late 95 & early 96. So new that many mechanics/technicians were really mesmerized by the system. Of course, after new scan tools came out, there was a learning curve.

Now, when the Check Engine lite comes on, I breathe a sigh of relief. One can learn so much from not only the code that was set, but also all the scan tool data that can be picked up.

To see a good example of this see the following thread:

Rather lengthy, but worth the read!
