don't have a pic yet, but it is a little plastic piece (with metal at the tip) that is sticking out of the thermostat housing on my 81. My plastic is busted up on it....

Lance, that sounds like a thermo switch... specifically the EFE control switch for your evap system.

If you cap all the associated lines- it shouldn't give you any problems if it isn't used. If originality is a concern- then that is another story.
