I have a tick in the motor since returning from Bowling Green that only happens on start up and lasts for about 30 seconds. :cry It doesn't sound like piston slap, but rather a lifter. Has anyone had the cut o-ring called out in the above TSB and if so, what were the symptoms?
TIA

Just saw a similar post below and read the response by C4C5specialist. I don't have an increase in noise when warm, but rather it goes away completely. I did notice now that the car has 10K miles on it, the motor appears to be "free", or rev easier. (Kind of hard to explain). I am looking for more information to find out if I have this problem with the o-ring and what else to look for.

My 98 coupe, with 22k miles, has had a knock that sounds like a wrist pin or rod knock. It only happens when it is a cold engine, and lasts about 20-45 seconds. Approach a Corvette mechnic at the local chevy house about the bullentin. He said if you "irate" GM long enough, you can get them to warrant the engine for 100k miles, or maybe a free oil change for life. They know the problem exist, but don't think it requires a engine change. Sorry! tHAT MAY BE OF NO HELP, BUT SO FAr no problems with my caR

HI there,
Your noise is most likely carbon build up creating the concern.
All you have to do to remove the noise, is to add a bottle of 12345515 fuel system additive to the tank, and see if the noise decreases. My theory is that it will. Some will have to add 2 bottles, however, it will address your concern.

Thanks for the response. I hope that it is that simple, I would be thrilled. I will pick that up this week and see what happens. Is this the same stuff that you spray in the manifold, and would that also work?

HI there,
12345515 is a fuel system additive. This is made and stocked by GM.
While many people feel that this is only Techron rebottled, it is not.
Just remember, based on the amount of carbon you have in your engine, you may require 2 treatments.
Now, add to a full tank, and run to completion.
The stuff that is sprayed into the throttle body is different, and should not be confused.
Please keep us posted, c4c5:hb

c4c5--

I've noticed that you've recommended this decarbonizing additive quite frequently. Would this fuel additive be a good thing to consider running through our Vettes from time to time, even if we're not really having a noticeable problem? My Vette has 78,500 miles on it. Would it be smart to do this periodically, just as preventative maintenance? If so, how often would you recommend?

Thanks,
Fred

Our 2000 has a steady light tick/knock/rattle sound more noticeable when cold. I got a bottle of that stuff from the local GM dealer and dumped it in last year. I think it cleaned it up a bit. The car was also running a little rough at idle.

I can tell you that whatever is in that bottle, it is powerful!

I left a can with the lid not tight in the house garage. The fuems escaping from that can were enough to run you out of the garage!

I think it is time for us to do this treatment again. I have noticed the noise more and more. The car gets very few miles each week as we live less than a mile from Nikki's work.

Hi there,
12345515 is recommended for one use every six months. This is the instructions on the bottle, and GM service recommendations.
If one bottle does not clean the carbon buildup, I will change the oil in between applications. Only due to the fact that the additive is very strong, and will dilute the oil some.
This is the only way I use it.
