I was recently looking through Mid-America's catalog and see that they list a MasterLube PreLubrication System as well as a TurboLube Quick Pre-Lubrication System.

A couple of years ago I bought a similar turbo saver for my Buick GNX but have never installed it.

I was wondering how many folks here have installed any of these types of gadgets and get their feedback on its function.

Thanks,

Luigi

Luigi, I recall the turbo "saver" from years back - I tthink it was designed for Buicks as well... Anyways, it kept the turbo oil flowing through a running engine to allow a cooldown period :)
I think one or two minutes was the duration.

Turbo oiling

What do you guys think of Slick 50 or other PTFE type oil additives? Do you think they might be a good idea, and less compleax to use than the pre-oiler. Actually I don't know what the pre-oiler is, how does it work?

On our Dutch forum we have had the same (Slick50) question a week ago...
Our conclusion was that it could maybe help if you put it in a new engine (not one with some 10k mile on it). If it was that good other oilcompany's would make it a standard product for in there oil! And that's about it. Here is more but linking the topic would not do any good because it's in Dutch (maybe some German guys would understand it...) I'd like to know what you guys think of it...

Greets Peter.

Malc,

When activated by a button, the engine pre-lube brings engine oil pressure up, before you start the engine. Thus avoiding dry start of the engine. The turbo-prelube is supposed to do the same for the turbo seals/bearings.

There are also similar devices which keep your engine running a pre-determined amount of time after shut-down to let the turbo spin-down/cool off and avoid coking/cooking of the oil in the turbo due to heat.

Like I said, I bought one of these for my Buick GNX but never installed it (yet another useless toy). I saw this in the Mid-America catalog http://www.madvet.com/shop?store=3&category=135&frame=3510 and thought I would ask if anyone else has ever used this stuff.

Chris,

Not really but I was looking through the Mid-America catalog and wondered if this was something other folks have been doing. As I mentioned I have one for my Buick GNX which has been sitting in the garage for about 1.5 years :) .... who knows if I will ever put it in but I was curious. There has been a lot of hype about these in previous turbo forums but I have found few who actually use them.

This might be a good question to pose to Callaway directly. Perhaps it was not something they thought about during their work on the B2K's. Then again, they did take a long hiatus (10 years) from turbocharging (for reliability's sake) until their recent work with the Mazda Protege.

I have seen something similar to the pre luber in my old summit catalogs. I cant find it doing a search.

Another option might be using an accusump, if you have the room.
