Does anyone know anything about rebuilding the turbos on my 1990?

While doing a leakdown this weekend I noticed a little oil in the compressor discharge on the drivers side turbo. I then looked at the inlet of the compressor and there was some oil as well. The passenger side had less than the drivers side but it was still there.

Not being an expert on turbos I am not sure exactly what has caused this oil but I can't imagine it is a good thing.

I have never had a turbo apart but does anyone know if this is something a guy can do on his own or are there specialized tools involved?

Also, if this is something that is specialized, does anyone have a recommendation as to where they should be sent?

Turbo rebuilds

Callaway can rebuild the turbos. Also at least one of the members here had their turbos rebuilt by Evergreen in Florida . Ask Josh he has spoken to them about the turbos. Evergreen has a vast knowledge of Rotomaster Turbos. I hope this helps. They also make custom applications for racing.

Steve,

rebuilding them is not that difficult, however they are precission balanced. I would not take the chance I would have it done. There are a number of diesel fuel injection / turbo shops in seattle that can do it

This is very true - Callaway Cars has rebuilt a few sets of turbos for the B2K's over the past year and I am certain they could handle any issue you may be experiencing.

Also as mentioned, Evergreen has a lot of experience - Charlie Brown, Evergree's owner has decades of experience between he and his father. Another member here had his seals re-done by Evergreen soon after purchase of his 1991 due to oil blowing through the seals...

Good luck & keep us posted :m

I appreciate all of you taking the time to respond. I will contact these companies tomorrow.
