I had previously posted asking for help with a problem I'm having with the turn signal housing lock wedge on my '60 under a different title with multiple questions. I'm hoping someone can help me with a specific question about this wedge. Here's a link to a picture of it.

The wedge that I found in my housing has been jury rigged by the previous owner and doesn't even look like this one anymore. He also had shim jammed in there to hold the housing in place. I'd like to put it back the way it should be but I have no idea how to utilize this wedge to tighten everything up in there. Can anybody help? :confused
The original wedge was stripped and a nut was added that interferes with the turn signal cancellation blade. You can see the nut on the left side of the housing under the blade in this picture. I've stablished that the wedge goes in with screw head side inboard which begs the questions what does the screw do and how do you adjust it? Help!

Terry,

The wedge's purpose is just to hold the housing in position on the outside of the column. The screw head comes out the back side of the housing, and you simply tighten the screw to pull the wedge against the column and lock the housing in place. There is no complicated procedure, just set a gap between the steering wheel bell and the housing of 1/8" or so, and tighten the screw. The wedges are availble at most of the repro places, or you can just install a helicoil in you old wedge if you have some. The screw has to have a surface to bear on in the housing in order to tighten up. If your housing has had the screw head pull through the hole, then you will have to replace the housing.

Thanks John, I've got one on the way from Zip. Unfortunately it's backordered but due in to Zip on 3/29. The original configuration had the screw completely inside the housing. Your explanation gets a big OOOOHHHHHH! I appreceiate the help. :w
