the 4+3 nash on my 84 finally lost reverse. i've heard ppl say that this is a sure sign of overdrive problems and have it checked immediately (duh). i think my clutch is about gone too. will a clutch replacement and and overdrive lube/gasket/filter help this problem? that seems way too easy. if not... where is the best place to get a rebuilt six speed that will fit in this. anyone know what the six speed transmission is called that replaces the doug nash?

how long can i drive this thing without reverse before the whole thing poops out? tranny seems just fine going forward.

man if reverse is out in that tranny the overdrive dosent have any thing to do with reverse thats in the tranny it's self the rebuild kits i dont think are that bad but you better have whoever rebuilds it better know what he's doing. they do have replacement trannys that you can buy drop in but one thing you have to remember that over drive does funny thins to a guys finaldrive ratio and they COST! i was looking at my summitt/jegs/corvette central and ecklers, the average cost for a direct replacement for that doug nash is going to be about 3500.00 for something that will last and that you can trust.you might shop around and find one but you gotta remember buyer beware, you also might google doug nash replacement transmissions and come up with a little better deal than the catalogs will give you anyway good luck and just remember if reverse is out of that tranny that it might just decide to take a dump on you just any time. one other thing you might check if i remember right that doug nash is not a top loader tranny you might get it up on a rack and check the linkage and make sure that all the bushings and keepers in it are in good shape good luck with your car

ecklers part # for that tranny is there's two differnt trannys but one part #is37131 you can go to ecklers web page and inter that # and get a look at what it is

bad carrier bearing in overdrive

well i've been doing some research and found this nugget..Nash Overview...
that sounds like exactly what my problem is... now how the heck do i get the carrier bearing replaced? somebody will have to rebuild the whole overdrive?

check with your local tranny shop or you might get in touch with your local corvette club,or better yet joine one. my membership fees for my club are only 30.00 a year that puts you in touch with people that own the same car you do and have the same problem you do. it can be worth your time. our club is luckenough to have a career corvette mech that started out with the c-2 and when he retired it was during the c-6 delovepment he only charges about a third of what the local shops charge and has all the tech pubs that cover all of them get some support and get it diagnosed,it can be a pain in the butt but if you injoy the car its worth fixin.but get it to somebody that can tell the difference wither its in the overdrive or in the tranny

I'm going to guess that, because it's only reverse that's gone and the other gears work that the O.D. may not be the problem. It might be the gearbox section of yoru Doug Nash has a problem.

Have you checked to make sure the reverse shift rod hasn't falling out of its lever?

If the problem is more serious and replacement of the gearbox section is required, I'd think more along the lines of another transmission type.

Richmond has a nice kit that installs a six-speed in place of the 4+3.

hib same thing i told him cause&effect make sure you rule out all other causes then do the nasty, this is off topic but i'm having trouble with the heat defrost ac director in my 88 and before i pull the dash out and start looking for the reasoncan you tell me if there is a web site or tech site i can go to for some direction it has the electronic controls
