Underdrive pulleys part II

Okay, I want to get them, but my grandfather doesn't believe that it will benefit anything. Wont it since the pulley is smaller and less distance to turn, put out less voltage then the larger one. Does anybody know how much smaller the one from Mid America is over the stock one, and how does the smaller alternator pulley go on? Mine on there looks very small as it is. Thanks for any feedback, just making sure its worth a Benjamin.

yeah they do sound like a good idea, but i have been told they don't give you any more horse power, but some have said it the car seems quicker since theres less drag on th motor? so its a tuff one to say they worth the $100 by time your done with buying everything and the new belt. if your thinking about more horses it may not be the best choice, but its your vette and if you want them its only $100 bucks and some time putting them in.

I put the March 3 piece pulleys on mine some time ago. The altenator pulley is only like 2% smaller. They do this to keep the charge output as high as possible. The pulleys that are smaller are the crank and the water pump. These are noticeablly smaller. One thing they don't tell you ... you need a new belt. Can't remember the size but its like 2 inches shorter. (I went to Autozone and picked up a Goodyear Gatorback ... they had it in stock.)

I'm not sure that there was a true HP increase, but with the way these cars are every little bit helps. IMHO they are worth it, but thats me.

so are you saying you can tell the differance with the under drive pullys?? i was thinking about them too, but on corvetteforum guys there said they were not worth it?? i mean they do make sense by under driving the other accessory's. i mean they said the air foil didn't do any thing but i got one any way since it was cheap even if it helps a little with air entering the TB.

The kit from Mid America is only a two piece pulley system http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=3.844 Do you have a link for the three piece one? My buddy said just take a piece of string and measure how long it is then go get a belt from autozone.

Having tried the pulleys, I am with him.

Surely the marketing types make it SEEM like a sensible improvement, but I have better things to do with my "bens". I'd check the comments on the other forum regarding low-speed steering effort, too. I WAS NOT happy with that change.

When you measure make sure the tensioner is about half travel. (you have to hold it with a 1/2" breaker bar)

I didn't notice any difference in the turning effort at low speed ... but that's me. I surely did NOT gain 20hp ... maybe a couple ... maybe none, but they are on and no problems so they stay.
