Uncle bought (another!) vette the other week, called me up to assist with a few things. Nice car, L82, convert, red.

There is a pretty large three position rocker switch, black, located on the drivers side of the center console about where your knee is when seated. Any clue? I don't recall seeing one, but it looks OEM if I had to guess.

And no the blue 74 is STILL not finished, if any of you remember, I've been away and busy as heck for awhile now. Miss this place, wish every car type had a forum this good...

:)

The switch on my 78

(near my right knee) is for the rear window defroster. Perhaps that is what yours is, too?
Center is neutral, rock it up and it turns on the defroster, rock it back and it turns off the defroster.

convert had a rear defrost? Hmm, OK, I'll check it out. Thanks guy's! :)

You've got me wondering, now!

Why would a convertible have a rear window defroster!?
What else can the switch be for?
Heidi

dont you guys know all c3's had a nitrous switch ;-)....

are you sure its the original console? check under it and see what color/how many wires are leading to it. it may be the incorrect console....... only think i could think of.

Wolf.... definitely not a defog switch. Perhaps the original owner had fog lights at one time or even a kill switch? Just a couple thoughts. On my '81 I used the defog switch location to put in a switch that activates my TCC on my tranny to electrically lock ther clutch in place. So there could be a lot of reasons for the switch. Pull up the console and see where the wires go (if anywhere). Let us know what you find. I am intrigued too. :D

Good luck.............. Nut

The convertible was available with a rear defroster, a blown hot air system, switch was on the drivers side of the console.

tom...

I called my uncle and he says there is a seperate switch for the rear window defroster, I don't know about the hot air blower part, is that the only defroster setup there was?

To clarify the switch is mounted on the side of the console, verticaly. I'll probibly pull it up and have a look at some point.

Thanks..

At first I was thinking it wasn't OEM, but then everyone else said RW Defroster. But then you came back and said it's on the side of the console. So, is the switch pointing towards your knee, or is it pointing up towards the sky?

If it's toward the sky, should be the RW Defroster. If it's actually pointing at your knee (or towards the door), then it sounds aftermarket.

Did they have some type of kill switch for an alarm or something?

It's pointing toward the knee. Could well be aftermarket, I wasent sure. I'll trace it out eventually and report back.
