I think Callaway did a better job with the C4 than Lingenfelter with the C5.... I LOVE TurboLuigi's car (If I ever see it in real life at a gas station I could destroy gas pump #2 from being in awe).
That lingenfelter turbo never really got the heart pumping the way Callaway did (and still does!)

Luigi, they are intersting cars for sure - there is a LPE 550 car around here however, it does not really grab any more attention than any other c5 as it looks bone stock - even from the topside of the engine (although I saw it at night)
Up in MD, there is the silver LPE 427tt w/ the body on it - gets looks for sure:s but to me, it is simply not the same as the Callaway Aerobodies - that car I think ran a 9:90 in the 1/4:eek

The car in the Auction is "off road" only! Will not pass emission in any state according to the people at Lingenfelter.
The seller failed to mention this to the auction house. A law suit could arise later if the new buyer finds this out the hard way.
All the news on these TT cars that are pushing 600+ hp is not good. Seems running problems and breakdowns are occuring more often than normal.
As to emission issue with cars that are modified to this point, a trial program is in effect in several states where the car's computer is directly linked up to the emission computer. Failure occurs when codes are present and or mods produce operating perimeter outside the manufacturers normal operating range. Georgia is one state that is in this program. Currently, all 2001 thru 2003 car do not have to go through this test. This cycle every year by one. With most heavy mods occuring on 2001 and later, many owners have not faced this issue here in Georgia.
Wait until next year.

VA has "remote sensors" - actually a van parked on the side of the road to measure emissions - Although not approved (YET
) The idea is to sample vehicles passing by... The hook to the public is, if your car goes through and passes then you won't have to go onthe emissions Dyno (every two years) :eyerole

I interpret what Stan says as (& please correct me if I am wrong)...
That there is no mention (at least on the Barrett-Jackson website) that the car meets emmissions with that kind of horsepower.
If one of the mods to generate this kind of HP was removing the catalytics, it is violating federal laws and thus it is not a street legal car. If the owner goes to register it in his state and the authorities inspect it and it fails emissions, the owner gets fined (at best) and is not able to register the car. This could lead to a law suit had that tidbit not been disclosed prior to bidding. :eek
Now if it was a pre 1972 car (I think that was the dreadful year), when Catalytics were not required or the car is not going to be used on public roads (ie doesn't need a tag), then that is no issue.

Luigi has it almost right. It is possible that the car may have have cats but with that much mods (engine change, turbos, new ecm operating guidelines), passing any emissions cannot be possible.
Chris, what you speak of is similar to what is being tried in Texas. If you are stopped for a violation, they call a special unit to check your car if they so desire. I got an email from a gentlemen last December who owned a Hennessey 700 Venom Viper who got stopped for speeding outside Houston. By the way, he one of the people in that major law suit that is going on in Texas at this time. He was clocked at 90mph in 70mph speed zone. They noted his car had all the Hennessey markings and call the special unit. His car had cats but he failed all the test category. They towed his car and as of December, 2002, two months after he was ticketed, he still does not have his car back. State and federal agencies are doing an investigation which pushed him to join the main law suit. He has been told that he may have to return his car to stock in order to get it back and registered. Imagine spending 40k for the upgrade and another 15k to return it to stock. Hennessey keep and sold all his old parts.
It appear that many more states are getting involved in experimental programs than previous thought. I think we are in for hard times.

Last Summer, Mag red 02 LPE TT C5R was advertised w/ 1000 hp, offered for 175k (looks VERY similar to the car for auction) and claimed a top (theoretical) speed of 250mph:L Car was in GA.

The pewter one Im thinking of has a stock body and is FRC. It has a front plate that kinda looks like the Forced Air induction that came out for C4s. It also has a high rise hood.

Hennessey Law Suit????
I believe that most of the issues of failures are not directly turbo issues themselves. As I understand, many of the problems have to do with the setup and other issues are related to part suppliers. This information is coming second hand. I would welcome the opportunity to speak with anyone who has the TT setup to get info first hand. Turbo failure is at best something that is way down on the list. Further note, over the years it has been common place for people and or businesses that build high horsepower engine (600+) to experience more problems. It just seems to come with the territory.
SurfnSun, the story I passed on is old news. The Hennessey issue is an ongoing thing that well documented especially in Viper circles. It has been mentioned in numerous threads on the CF and here CAC several times. The gentleman had the problem in Texas is part of the ongoing suit and because of legal issues, I cannot mention his name at this time. He is not happy person about all this and the attorney of record wants all issues pertaining to Hennessey's action keep close. As to being far fetch, be glad that you do not live here in Georgia. All that is happening here will be a nightmare if this system is keep in place permanently.
It is important to understand that what may seem "far fetch" now may because common place at later time. Eight years ago it was believe that emissions would never be tied in with the computer ECM system. Tech cost would be too high and the training that went with it. I spent a number of year with EPA here in Georgia and I can tell you that the future is somewhat bleek for high performance cars ( large vehicles like SUV too) that cannot get good mpg. The restrictions and the guidelines that where discussed would scare any true automotive enthusiast.

Tonite, at the local car cruise in, the LPE Twin Turbo car from Motor Trend & other publications pulled in - quiet as a mouse...
The owner has a 427 Z06 as well and offered a trade (Z06) for the SNAT - I passed...
