Question: Updating to programable ECM 85 vette

I am wanting to up-grade the engine(350)in my 85, and install a bill mitchell small block 427(530hp). While I have vast experiance with carborators, I'm EFI challanged. I would like to stay with the TPI style intake although I will be using a aftermarket manifold\runners and changing to the 58mm throttle body. What if any programable ECM is available?

The ECM already in the car is "programmable" provided you have the equipment and the expertice to do so.

If you do a couple quick internet searches you should find an abundance of information on tuning, and the tools it takes to do so.

Drop PROM Burning into a seach.

But you would upgrade to the '86 -'89 computer which does more and has much more support around the tuning Forums.
85 was one year only with a very slow computer speed.
Is mainly a matter of changing the pins on the computer plug to new configuration and buying used common "165" computer.
For $175 you can buy a device that allows you to adjust the tune of your engine from a laptop ( even while you are driving )

The C4 computers/chips use a fairly old programming code. You would really need to know what you're doing to re-program those chips. It's not like the newer ECM's which are much easier and straightforward to change or download new maps.

It is much easier and wiser to either buy a pre-programmed chip for your Corvette. TPIS makes a variety (levels) of programming available off the shelf. Or, you can have them custom program one for you (not sure if they still do this though).

Either that or find someone who is an expert at programming C4 chips.

I will be the first one to say that tuning a FI setup isn't easy, at least not for a novice.

However, there are great tools now even for our cars. There is great information over at thirdgen.org.

Also, do a search for Tuner Pro.

Most hot engines are going to need a custom tune; there are too many variables for a off the shelf " pre programmed " chip to work correctly.
Most tuners will give you a base startup chip and work with you to fine tune it once you can start datalogging
