I would like to upgrade the Fog Lamps on my 04 Vert. Thought I saw an article somewhere on how to and the different bulbs available.

Any help would be apreciated.

Do you drive in the fog or is it for looks?

Hi

There are different kinds of bulbs that you can use but what do you really need it for?

If you live in a really bad area where there is a lot of dense fog, take another car. If this is your only car then wait for vette owners who have already changed their bulbs.

Now if you just want to look cool and blind oncoming drivers then that's another story because you will not go any faster unless you live in the back woods and need better lighting. And if this is the case you can get stronger bulbs for your main lights.

But l'm sure you need them so that uncoming cars can see you travelling at 150mph.

Alan

p.s. Love to call them bulbs and don't take me seriously.

Fog lamp, bulb upgrade

Alan,

We have a lot of Fog where I live, but I really just want to blind other drivers!

In fact I turn them off when meeting traffic, but I read an article on an upgrade and there were pics that really looked brighter and whiter so would like to give it a try.

Was not dumping on you!

In my area where we have very little fog, there are vehicles mainly SUV's that have enough lights on the front of their vehicle that could pass as search lights!
For some reason they feel that the more lights they have the more status they have, so this is a pet peave for me.
And being quite low in relationship to them they tend to blind me from behind and coming toward me.
So l'm sorry if l sounded rude, it was really not my intention.

The Mid-America catalog sells bulbs both for your low and high beam, $29.99 for each, sold in pairs but they are for your reg head lights.

I was unable to find stronger bulbs for the fog lights.

885's

PIAA makes a lamp (not just a bulb) that replaces the entire stock Blazer brand lamp. Great output, but as mentioned, too bright with on coming traffic. Sorry I don't recall the exact part number, if it comes to me I'll post back.

Stosh, with all these helpful comments, I don’t know if you picked up what Vettex2 was saying, but you can replace the existing bulbs, and no modifications to the assembly, with Sylvania 885 (50 watts) bulbs. You can get them at any Walmart or automotive shop and they are easy to replace, just be careful no the touch the new bulbs with your fingers.

Not to hijack this thread, but my 98 was not ordered with the $15 option to include fog lamps. Is the wire harness already there? Can I add after market fogs without a lot of crazy drilling, cutting, welding, sawing, primping, painting, cussing and drinking?:confused :L

Thanks

I did not notice much difference changing just the bulbs. Upgrading to the PIAA 1100x made a world of difference. In fact, they throw off better light than my headlights. True that they are bright, but as low as my car sits, I find that I blind few drivers. :pat

DITTO! I have the PIAA 1100X lights and find I do not need to use the headlights. The illumination from the PIAAs is slightly better!

Do the PIAA 1100s! I did them on my Z in conjunction with PIAA replacement headlight bulbs. The difference is night and day! :L

With these, you can keep the barn doors closed.

The Z06 doesn't come with them either, but I added them to mine. Check out this link:

Not sure about the coupe though.

Ok..... Where is the best (cheapest) place to get some PIAA 1100x's?

I got mine from PFYC. They had the best price at the time I bought mine. They handle the PIAA replacement headlight bulbs too. Here's a link:

BTW: All you Z06 guys (and non driving light equipped coupes and verts.) All the wiring for driving lights is already in your car from the factory (even the relay.) All you have to do is pull out the stock trunk release switch and replace it with the one that comes in a dl equipped car, it plugs right in. It'll have the dl switch right in it (see above post with the pic of the lights in the box, the GM parts box is the switch.) Then you go out to the fuse block and splice onto the line side of the relay (see above link to cf.) You'll need brackets to mount the lights, but you can make those yourself.

I agree with the 885s. They are the stock foglight bulb on 93-97 Camaros and are 50w vs 37w for the C5 stock. Also, checking the aim on your lights is a big help. Mine were pointed down at quite an angle. I re-aimed them to be just below the low beams.

Thanks Guys/Gals
As always you are a wealth of information.

The link I posted above to PFYC also has the Sylvania Silverstar Bulbs on the same page. I put their replacement driving light bulbs in my Tahoe and the are considerably brighter than the stock bulbs. They have a nice bright cast of light to them also.

Thanks Tom... kinda expensive,,, gonna have to eat Ramen noodles for a while.

Are the Sylvania Silverstar Bulbs a direct replacement with the OEM headlight bulbs?

Yeah, they are. I put a set of those in my Tahoe as well. The light cast is much "whiter" (is that a word?)
