Can the wider factory style rims ( 9 1/2"- same as used on the rear ) be used in lieu of the 8 1/2 " on the front without steering or brake rotor interference ? The tires used would be the same size all around . Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated . I am Looking at getting a 2nd set of tires& wheels for all - season usage . I have a complete set of 4 wider rims available to me & wanted to be sure they would work.

Thanks

No problem!
With the introduction of the 17" wheels (1989), the C4 received 9.5" wide wheels on all four corners and the 275/40 tire - except the ZR1 which got the 11" wheels on the rear.
Too many people complained about the C4 wandering on the highway so GM decided to put narrower front tires on it with the 1993 model but there was not change otherwise to the base suspension C4 - just the narrower front tires. This did lead to a tire size change for the rear as the front and rear tires needed to be the same or nearly the same diameter. The 255/45 and 285/40 are. So, base '93 through '96 C4s got this combination.

The ZO7/Z51 cars reverted to the 9.5 all around and the 275/40 tire.

So, the answer is - not problem. If you go with 9.5 on all 4 corners, you can use either the 275/40 or 285/40 all around - but don't mix these sizes.
