I am sure someone has had the following problem and will have an answer, but I'm new to the Corvette community and am not very knowledgeable....yet! I have a recently purchased '72 and when I shut the car off the left headlight pops open as well as the wiper cover. I retracts as soon as the car is fired back up and everything is fine. Am I looking at two individual problems here? If so what might they be?

Thanks in advance.....

Michael

Well, I'm not sure, but I'll take a guess at it. When you shut the car off, there will always be remaining vacuum in the system, because I don't think it has a way out. So, I'm thinking that maybe your relays are shot or the actuators. But I don't see why this wouldn't happen when the Vette is still on.

I'm sure someone will chime in real soon with a definite answer.

Good luck! :D

Where can I find a correct vaccuum diagram for later C3's like my '77 that doesn't have a wiper door or the vaccuum tank inside the left front fender? Later C3's have a horizontal vaccuum tank up front right behind the grille assembly. They also only have one override valve as well, the earlier C3 diagram is different especially where it comes off the manifold and goes into the filter, and goes through the firewall. It can become a little confusing when using the older diagram. Also is there a replacement hose kit for the later C3's without all the hoses for the wiper door assembly? It seems that they only make it one way, or am I wrong?

Thanks D, the link is very informative and should be a help, it is exactly what I was looking for.

Vacuum Problems

I want to thank all who "steered" me in the right direction. It's not as complicated as it seems, the hardest part is getting to know what goes where. I found 2 green hoses going to the lh relay but have yet to trace them back and find out what's going on.

Doc Rebuild ( www.docrebuild.com ) has the best C3 vacuum system diagrams going, and the best replacement hose kits too (correct diameter hoses so they don't break the nipples on the vacuum relays).

Problem Solved!!!

Just for the hell of it I checked the vacuum check valve and sure enough....it would not hold a vacuum. This sort of puzzles me because if it goes bad, what holds down the other light? The lights are working now so it's time to fix somrthing else.

Have a nice New Year!!!!!

My 80 when I would shut the engine off the Right headlight would pop up. Start it up and shed go back down.
Problem was the Vacuum check valve located behind the air cleaner. (Corvette Central part number 443037)
