Guys and Gals:

I am a current 73 L82 owner. I have found a car and am considering a purchase. I would like your opinions on the $$$ value now and future appreciation value of a 1973 L-48 Convertible as follows:

* Car is COMPLETELY Original (minus HD Battery & brakes pads)
* Car is MINT condition, see below for just a couple of awards
* 51,000 actual (fully documented) miles.
* Complete history, original dealer docs, tank sticker, etc.
* Original decals, stickers, emblems, tags in engine bay/doors.
* Complete documented owner history.
* #'s matching (ALL NUMBERS MATCH, the whole darn car...)
* Auxiliary Top and Black Top Convertible

Just a fraction of the many documented awards:
1. Bloomington Gold, June 1987 (The 1st 1973 Roadster to win, have
the original letter stating & signature from Shirly White)
2. Chevy Vette Fest Triple Crown, Nov 19, 1995
3. NCRS Top Flight, Cypress Gardens FL Jan 1996
4. NCRS Performance Award, Bowling Green 1996
5. NCRS Duntov Award, National Convention St Louis, 1996
6. Chevy Vettfest Nationals, Chicago, Triple Crown, 1996
7. Chevy Vettfest Showcase, March 1997
8. Bloomington Gold, June 1997
9. Bloomington Gold Survivor, June 1997
10. NCRS Bowtie, Lake Placid NY, July 1997
11. Chevy Vettfest, Showcase, Nov 1997
12. NCRS 5-Star Bowtie, Collinsville, 1998
13. Bloomington GOld Special Collection XV, June 1999

Q#1: Any Guesses on what one should be willing to pay for this car?
Q#2: Your opinions on future appreciation of a completely original
73 Roadster (lowest production since '59).

I have photos taken today. Please email if interested.
Thanks in advance for your opinions. Looking forward to all responses.

It's only worth what someone is willing to write the check for. I would guesstimate 30 -35k. I have a similar car with 48k on the odometer. I have never shown or went the judging route.

That's quite a show history and unusual for a '73 to be campaigned so hard and long. Pretty difficult to put a value on it. Just out of curiousity, was one of the owners a guy named Lyle?

Q #1 It was sold at Bloomington this past summer there in the auction for $21,500. The "Buy It Now" price of $29,995 that it used to have on eBay was'nt much of a success, sooooooooo, take it from there......................

Bruce is absolutely right - it just depends what someone is willing to pay, and I'm not sure how many people there are around who want to put big $$$ into a '73. Much as I'd like to see the value of these beauties rise, $30k sounds to be at the top end of what you might expect. I'd have thought mid 20's would be more reasonable.

You asked about future appreciation. Frankly I wouldn't expect to see anything dramatic, maybe a few % a year. It's not going to be an investment (although it may do better than my portfolio has over the last year or so!)

Yes, the third (and last official) owner was named Lyle.

Thanks guys, didn't know the full history of past sales & prices. I was told the price was firm at $27500.

Very interesting......
