Can someone give me an estimate of the value of a '69 numbers matching 427/390 4-speed with 66000 miles. Its a t-top car with power steering and brakes. Overall it appears to be in good shape.

I would say in the $25K to $30K range depending on how clean. Also depends on what part of the country, here in S. Cal things seem to be as inflated as the housing market is. I just bought a 327/350 68 Conv with a older body off restore but still in excellent shape, with new top for $24K but had to go out of state for it. This is just an opinion, I'm not an expert but have been looking at a lot of corvettes for a few months. Also I'd be careful to what number matching really means. Lot's of numbers, carb, heads, block, etc....
Good luck on your quest, it's kinda fun.

Matt,

I took a look at the C3 "Value Table" posted in the July 2003 edition of Corvette Magazine. Here's the breakdown for the 69/427 Coupe:
  • $13,100 - poor condition
  • $19,400 - decent condition
  • $22,700 - great condition
  • $29,200- fabulous condition

Which 427 is that breakdown for? Is that the 390HP?

I'd say Remo is closer to what the true value is. Based on "good shape" I'd say 20k - but if it's got a few desirable options that could easily go to 25k or more (A/C, sidepipes, power windows, M22 tranny, etc)

I was looking through a local car mag this morning and found a nice 68 327 vert for $24 500 Canadian, so that's less than 20k US. I don't really want another one, but I still can't looking once or twice a month ;)

The important thing is be happy, whatever you decide. Good luck.

I recently had my 1971 LT1 appraised at $32,750.
My car has had a body off restoration, and is in excellent condition.
The people that appraised my car are NCRS certified, and their
business is restoring corvettes. They are nationally recognized,
and are located here in MA.
Don't know if this helps or not, but like a previous reply stated the
value might vary depending on where you're located.

Matt,

That was based on the 390 HP version. If it had the L88/430 HP engine than the skys the limit (in other words the seller could make a pile of money) no matter what the condition.

Who are these guys? I'm looking for a local 'vette shop to work on anything I can't do myself...

Ron's Auto Restoration

Just as a heads-up, Ron's business is VERY busy year round.

I'm in awe everytime I visit the place as there are so many classic vette's in various stages of restoration. I'd be surprised if you've ever seen anything like it. The operation, as well as the people are first class, and I wouldn't think of having anyone else work on my car. If you've ever heard the saying "it's being like a kid in a candy store," even that can't describe what it's like to visit Ron's. Give Ron a call if there's anything you can't do yourself, or better yet, pay him a visit. He's a great guy, very easy going, and always willing to share his expertise. Let me know what you think if you decide to pay a visit. It's really wild!

Just a minor point, but there's no such thing as a business or people that are 'certified' by NCRS. Also, an appraisal for insurance purposes has little or no relation to the market value of a car. I wish I could get half what my car was appraised at. :beer

Absolutely right about the market value of a car. A car, or anything else for that matter, is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

As for the NCRS "certified statement," here's what's listed on Ron't homepage:

"Corvettes Restored to NCRS Top Flight Specifications"

In the future I'll try to be more careful of what I write when someone asks for help or information. Obviously there are people out there with nothing better to do than nit-pick.

By the way, I am not affiliated with Ron's in any way. I'm just a paying customer.

True enough - but Ron is well known throughout the NCRS community and recongnized as one of their most knowledgable experts.

Might be nit-picking to you, but you're not the guy that formerly had his private email address and phone number listed on a NCRS site and got a regular stream of messages asking for 'approved' or 'certified' repair shops, people, or evaluators. One guy was very indignant that a membership didn't include a 'free' evaluation ?!? Another guy from Phoenix (non member) called me on a Sunday at dinner time to demand that I go first thing Monday morning to inspect a car about 500 miles away. When I declined he threatened to 'report me'.

There's a tremendous amount of false info about the NCRS that circulates throughout the hobby primarily via the internet.

Yes, I've got better things to do, but perpetuating false statements is not one of them. I appreciate that you were trying to help a guy out, and as I stated my original post, 'just a minor point....'
