valve cover color

dumb question,

when i got my 72 454 the valve covers were chrome. the place i bought it said that they were not sure if they were original or not.

i thought that they were supposed to be chevy orange like the block.

any ideas

Should be the same color as the block.

i didnt think chevy put chrome covers on stock

Wasn't it that the small big block had painted covers but the optional HP big blocks had chrome? Since '72 did not have an optional HP BB it only came with painted.

Not sure about that Tom. I know that in some years (68-69) all BB covers were chrome.

id hate to swap them out for orange ones if the chrome was indeed correct. i know the hp sticker is wrong. no idea on why that was put there.

All things considered, I'd stick with the chrome ones.
