Very nice page you all have here. I'm new to this page and found that all the members will talk with ya instead of making you feel like an idiot. That is cool.
I live in south Florida own a 81 all stock except for the cat. removed, new distb.non computer, new edel. carb and all air pump stuff was taken off. Maybe it's not all stock. I have owned her 10 years, has 91,000 mile and drives great.
Have a question if you have time. Motor to the drivers window took a dump. I replaced with new G.M. motor. Some times the window will get stuck up or down and I have to tap on the motor to get it to work again. Two quick taps and it will work for weeks with out doing it again. I also noticed that the window goes up fast, to fast. I think this may be it. Is there any way to slow down this new motor? I noticed there is a screw with a nut around it on the front side of the motor, have no idea what that is. My Chiltons shop book does not go into it.
Any help would be great and again great site.
Thanks
Jim

Nice to have you on board.......you'll like the CAC great bunch of people in here with a wealth of knowledge about vettes.

As far as the window motor, not sure but that sounds like a regulator screw which would increase/decrease the resistance to the motor so may slow it down. If anyone knows for sure, they'll chime in and let you know.

Welcome aboard.:)

Paul.

make sure your wires are connected nice and tight. As for the speed, i dunno, cut back the power to it?

See3,

Can you see if the spiral spring is broken?
yb.dll

Check this page and enter the part number 283146 for an example of what it looks like:http://www.corvettecentral.com/ This is the Corvette Central's catalog. It is called the "power window regulator gear spring".

Thanks so much for your time. I will check out that spring again. It did look good when I was in there last. It seems to easy. I wish I could slow down the motor, that window sure goes up fast. I may have done something stupid when installing the new motor. When I took off the door panel, I unplugged the old motor and plugged in the new motor b-4 installing it, just to make sure it was the motor and it worked. Then when I was installing the new motor I notice a small red sticker on it that said "do not start motor B-4 installing". Bone head move. Do ya all think this could be it.

It's entirely possible that the motor has an on board regulator that is self adjusting.ie when it "feels" the load on the first go round it self adjusts the resistance in the motor coil and limits the current going to the motor. Check to see if the adjuster screw you mentioned earlier is to adjust the tension. It may be that is mechanical in nature and provides a mechincal drag on the shaft as it spins.

I suspect that's why they said not to run it until it's installed.......self adjusting regulator??? Someone should know for sure. Did you call the people you bought it from??

Paul.

Thanks paul. I did talk with the dealer and they told me that the motor was set by a scope thing and was ready for direct fit to the old gear for the tricypulater valve spring on and on and on. Pretty much bring it in and will fix it. I'm going to play with that srew on the side and see what happens. Heck, if that it great. If not, new motor.

Thanks Jim

If the motor self adjusted to the resistance when you plugged it in the first time you might try unplugging it then plugging it in again installed this might get the self adjusted to reset?

GO SOONERS
