Hi

Last Saturday morning l took my 96 out for a spin for the first time in 8wks and boy was l in for a surprise.

The car would creak and groan (body) every time l hit an uneven patch of road. This went on until the early afternoon when the temp rose above 50 degrees.

Is this natural or could have it been my top that was in the need of adjusting. The last time l took my top off was the last time the temp hit 85 degrees.

Alan

Its normal for mine no matter what the temp is.I always just wrote it off as the price you pay for having a sports car

Join the club. Fight it as you may, will still get some.

My '84 is quite.
Good Luck.

creakin vette

My 88 creaks much worse then my 67. A vette restoration expert in my area told me its all the plastic in the 88 where they put metal in the 67 ( interior, dash and plenty more ) probably true and you have to live with it as everyone with C4s that I spoke to tells the same story. I wonder if the newer 2000 and up vettes will creak when they are 10 years old???

Best regards,
Gerry

I for got to add something.I just remebered reading something on this and it was said that the hood rubbing on the upper portion of the cowl is the main noise maker.I think Mid America carries a rub strip pre cut ecspecially for that section of the hood.

I had a similar problem until I had the front and rear bushings lubricated. Now when I go over the speed bumps I hear sweet nothing.

Creaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys, l'm going to take it out more often and tighten the top. The storage cover could be doing it, but it sounds like it is coming from the rear shocks or springs.

Another day in the life of a vette owner.

p.s. The new C6 looks fabulous!!!

creakin vette

I am having a full alignment done tomorrow on the 88 coupe. Is there any special remarks I should tell the mechanic on lubricating the front and rear bushings and is there any particular type of lubricant I should have him use?? Thanks for the info.

Best regards,
Gerry

My 85 feels like it's made out of licorice, compared to my 77. The 77 hardly has any cowl shake and feels solid. The 85 shivers and quivers and shakes over the smalles bumps or road irregularities. Then again, it's also at least 300 pounds lighter.

Oh well.

craeking fix

heres and old motorhead fix. get a bottle of dish soep and squirt it everyplace you suspect,frnt/rear bushings, dash door panels, etc.the water evaporates and the wax in the soap stops the squeek. r/s frank

My 91 coupe started that a month or so ago. Took me 3 1/2 hours to find. The creak was the bottom bolt on panel of the left side package well. Attached to that is the ABS stuff. Loosened all the nuts, applied some RTV and re-torqued all the nuts. Squeak gone.
