Hey guys!!

I've got an Accel intake that's been ported through and through. I'd like to install this along with some untouched AS&M runners on my 86. I'd rather not port the runners becuase I plan on going with a Super ram in the near future and would sell them to help recoupe some of the coust of the super ram. The seller told me that this ported intake would yield 25-40 more hp than the stock Accel base.... does this sound about right????? It was ported all the way through from the inlet to the outlet and all were enlarged.

How many HP's would I be giving up by not porting the AS&M runners to match the intake? I will however port match the plenum with the runners.

Here's a shot of the porting, there's only a 1/16" between ports. Porting was done by Total Engine Airflow and you can see all the new swirls all the way through. Pics are from seller and a little dirty, but you know I cleaned it up as soon as I got it!!! :D

I think 25-40 is what you would gain with a ported intake and large tube runners along with a ported plenum over the stock items. And that is taking into account that you are making no other changes.

The TPI on our 'Vette's was originally designed for the 305 motor. I say go ahead and port it and have fun. A lot of guys are going to port it anyway.

i doubt you'll get 40 more hp with just this base. maybe 20 and another 10 with the runners at the most. porting the runners would yield alittle more but i don't think it's that much more and the resale value on the runners alone will only be around 150-200 at the most so if recouping that much means alot to you i say keep them as they are if not port away. from the setup you are building now to the super ram i don't even think it will be that much noticable to tell you the truth.

Thanks guys for the replies!

Mad-Mic,

You don't think I would see much of a gain from Accel base & AS&M's over the super ram? I didn't think there would be a "significant" gain myself.

I will also be adding some TPIS L/T headers with a 2 1/4 dual exhaust (catless) with X-pipe and some Flowmaster mufflers. What do you think I'd gain with my base & AS&M's with exhaust mods mentioned????

Appreciate your expert advice! :)

I wonder what he knows that Lingenfelter doesn't? I was advised BY THEM that my engine would not benefit from porting. What RU running?

Super ram
less low end; a major PITA to install. Poor build quality/fitment. :w

Hey WhalePilot,

I wasn't sure about the gains from porting myself, but figured since it's already ported, what the heck, it cant hurt! My car is pretty stock except for the usual freebie mods & tweaks. But I might try to slide a cam in since I'll have the intake off anyway. But I have a flat tappet and don't want to go through all that pain & expense to convert to roller. A good set of heads will be the next step after these mentioned mods.

As far as the SR, I'm with you. I hear it's a PITA and even worse if you need to get back in there for anything. I'd rather stay with the AS&M's if not a considerable difference in power from the SR. But my not-so-long term goal is cam & heads. Is that where the SR would benefit me more?

I'll take all the advice you guys got!!!!!!! :beer

Thanks, 70 horses doesn't sound too bad! I'd like to break the 300 hp mark! :)
