I am looking for a rebuild-able Rochester Quadrajet, OEM number 17080228. I have a 1980 with a L82.
I not looking for something that will just work, such as I would find at NAPA.
I have also posted this on the Parts Wanted Site.
Thanks, :cool

401KVET,
I just replaced the q-jet carb on my '81 L-81 w/ an Edelbrock. The carb is in good shape, but I'm not sure it's the one that matches your's. If it is, let me know, it's up for grabs.

The L82 had a normal q-jet, the LG4 (5.0L) had a E4ME (like the 81's).

Groeten Peter

Jimmy,

Your carb. should be a E4ME, # 17081228, or a 17081217 if you have a 4 speed.
Thanks for the reply, but I will keep hunting.

Yes, my carb is a ...1228. I replaced it w/ a 600 Edelbrock and it runs SOOO much better. The engine ran very smooth and consistent w/ the Q-jet, but the Edelbrock made an amazing difference.
I take it that you're keeping your 'Vette all stock and original. My hat's off to you. I did the same thing f/ years, but got tired of getting blown off by pick-ups, and the likes. I'm currently doing some engine work to bring it up to speed w/ the older small block 'Vettes.
Good Luck, and the pic of your car shows that you have a serious beautiful 'Vette.

Yes for now, I'm trying to stick with original in most areas. It is my 1st Vette and I have only had it since 10/2008. I was told it is all original with the exception of the alternator, brake rotors and carb. which had been replaced. It had 42,700 miles on it when I bought it. I guess you could say it's a Survivor, so I've been told. Inside and out looks very could for a 29 year old car. Over the last couple of months I have noticed a very slight surging mostly noticeable at cursing speed on a very smooth road. More noticable with the AC on. If the road is rough or even a little bumpy you will not feel it, you will just feel the road. So the road has to be a good one to notice it. It kinda feels like driving into a blowing headwind. I had the carb. looked at and adjusted by somebody who knows something about the old Rochester. Just got back tonight from a 1,106 mile road trip, but it is still there. ANYHOW, thanks for the complaint on my 1st Vette. I grew up looking at the C3's and have always wanted one. Look for a Post in a day or two on my first trip that I just took. I just checked my Atlas. Went right by ya. Came into to Texas down I-20 to see some friends in Plano, then went to Georgetown just out of Austin Saturday, and home tonight.
Thanks, :w

401,
Super low mileage your 'Vette has. You did find a rare one. Just as you grew up seeing the C3s, I grew up seeing mostly the C2s and some C1s. No computers then, and the engines were all horse power. I spent quite afew Sundays at the drag strips w/ older guys who had all-out race cars and afew who had really fast street/strip cars. I've always had some kind of fixation w/ fast-launching American cars, everything was American made in those days.
We lived in Shreveport, Louisiana, actually Bossier City, right around the corner from Barkesdale AFB from 2004-early 2007, where we were sent after spending three years in Puerto Rico. We ended right back here in Killeen, Ft. Hood where we started from in early 2002.
Your surge sounds like something to do w/ the computer's control of the carb, and not the carb itself. Or maybe a vacuum switch. That's a rare situation that a carb would fluxulate in the way you explain.
Your trip sounds like a winner. How I'd love to just pick up and take off.
I'm not discouraging you keeping your 'Vette in it's original condition and surely not downing you f/ doing it. I kept mine in it's original garb until the stock items needed replacing and I always said that I'd do it the "old way" when the car's mechanical side ever needed parts replaced.
I'm looking forward to more of your posts. Good Luck.

Quadajet carb hunt.

If I were in place I'd contact Contemporary Corvette at 215-788-8605 or

www.contemporarycorvette.com They always have a great number of wreaked C-3 corvettes. I got a number of original parts which i had rebuilt when I was getting my 79 L-48 ready for NCRS judging.

No computer in 1980. Came in 81. My mechanic thought it would clear up with the miles on the road trip, but not. He now wants to take a look a the distributor. I'll mention the V switch. I just posted something about the trip in general discussions
Thanks,
Glenn
