I buy and sell lots of stuff on of eBay and have had
very few problems. Just like a brick and mortar store in the real world the magic words are
buyer beware. If some guy looks sleazy in cyber space you can bet your booties that he is sleazy in the real world.
By following a few simple rules you can protect yourself, have fun and save $.
1) Never buy anything from an eBay store if they are willing to sell it to you outside of eBay.
i.e. the way these tires were bought. This is no different from the guy following you out of the Jewelry Store and selling you a Rolex for $500.
NO Guarantee of what you are getting but be sure
it ain´t real. An honest eBay merchant will not circumvent the eBay system and sell you an item out the back door. The honest merchant will make a 1 day special auction for you to buy a specific item. This way you still have all of the eBay buyer protection!
2) Only pay by PayPal. If the seller does not accept PayPal there is a good or maybe a
bad reason why. PayPal and eBay intervened on my behalf, refunded my money and banned the offender from doing business on eBay when I was cheated on a Tablet PC deal.
3) Only buy from established merchants with a strong feedback history.
4) Be a repeat customer and return to the eBay stores that give you good service. I buy all of my Brake Pads, disk, shocks, etc. from the same eBay store. On my last order he gave me free shipping and a nice thank you note for sending him more business and recently another eBayer who I buy most of my Motorcycle gear from called me (they are in the USA – I am in Europe) to warn me that a windshield that I was bidding on might not fit the European version of the bike.
The list goes on and on but to end this story it takes two to make a good deal… A good merchant and a good customer.
