While changing the water pump out on my 1976 Stingray I noticed that the top 3/8 bolt that goes through the pump and hols the top Alt. bracket on had been replaced with a metric bolt just a little larger in diameter. problem was they did not drill and tap they just ran it into the block
Never had any trouble with it "lucky I guess". I have had it Almost 3 years and 10,000 miles and it has held. But I will drill tap and put a 3/8 -16 inch coarse Perma Coil in to repair it correctly
