Well Ive been on a mad hunt for better wastegates for these cars.

-Callaway told me they wouldn't port my gates and put larger valves in. Nor do they have the red springs anymore.

-Turbonetics doesn't do any mod work on the old style Deltagates either.

This is where it gets complicated.

Turbonetics has a new wastegate out called the Evolution or Evo for short. Its a 35mm as opposed to 32mm like our current ones, has a higher lift valve. Its smaller too. Downside...its not adjustable from the outside. It has shims that you place in with the spring to set your psi. He said its a tossup to whether or not it would hold my boost down. Supposedly outflows the competition by 20%, I worry that my current set up would max it out and not allow room for growth.

Tial makes a 38mm gate that will bolt up to a deltagate flange. It only comes in set spring rates .4bar, .7bar...etc. None that falls with in the ranges that most of us want to operate our cars. They recommend a lower spring rate suppliemented with a boost controller.

Now the big dog wastegate on the block is a Turbonetics Racegate. Two of them can control 1800hp. They look just like our current gates. Adjustable from the outside and everything. The problem? I think they're too big. :( They sit 5.8" tall where as our Deltagates sit about 4.5". They also require a new flange and machining to the housing for the larger valve.

There is one other option from a company that sells Turbonetics products. Performance Techniques...they have a billet wastegate that is small and flows huge. Will easily control the boost on any of our motors. Again need a boost controller to change psi and new flange. They guy I talked to here was very knowledgable and told me not to waste my time porting mine existing gate as it wouldn't flow significantly more. He said he might be able to do it but wouldn't guarantee anything. At least 300 per gate to do it. http://64.225.76.178/main.htm look at "billet wastegate" on the left side of the screen

I had thought about the boost controller option until everyone said go electronic, manual boost controllers are junk. Electronic costs $$$, from what Ive seen starting at $400 for the good ones, but I haven't researched this much...yet.

I also talked to our friend 542C2 from CF.com. You might remember him as the guy who was asking about boost control for his 601rwhp 90B2k Aerobody...with 2500miles :D He is basically having the same problem I am, but he's running 15-17psi. Said the valves in our wastegates leak too much air to properly control boost.

Now I wouldn't mind trying some of these gates out and Im evening willing to eat the labor, but if you use it and it doesn't work youre stuck. No returns.

Im sitting on an intake, exhaust, and maybe a set of TPIS/AFR 195 heads(if I can work a deal). But Im not doing anything until I can up the airflow with our harming my motor. I want to be able to run 10.5-12.5 psi if I want and not be forced into race gas all the time.

Not really asking a question here, but thoughts/ideas/suggestions are more than welcome. :beer

Josh I see you are working the heck out of the top end . What are you doing with the bottom end all these mods might be a little much for the Pink Rods that are in our cars.Especially if you run high boost. I might suggest putting the Cats back but using Random Techs Bullet Cats really High flow anfd will help controll the boost issue. It sound like you are planning alot of work .

Pete, I want to get away from running the high boost. With all the mods, I can stress the motor less and make gobs more power at the same time. Take for example a centrifugal supercharger, if you change the heads to one with larger combustion chambers your boost gauge will read less, but you should be making more hp and tq(assuming everything is set up right on the car). I want to apply the same principal to my car.

I agree the pink rods worry me a bit, but Zabaz is still running his stock block and he races the heck out of it. Im sure if detonation has been controlled on the motor, which mine has since Ive owned it, the rods shouldn't be a worry.

Chances are I'll still run good gas, I just dont want to be in a situation where Im going to a car show or cruise and I have to take gas along or not race due to pump fuel.

Well Josh when I went to Carlilse I filled up with 100 octane for the ride down and took 2 five gallon cans of VP performance unleaded.Let me tell you that gas was way better than the Cam II that I filled up with . I run good gas all the time and do not have a boost problem just a preventative measure .I am upgrading my wastegates because I am putting in a new Larger diameter exhaust with Megaphones . Single Mass Clutch Wonderbar and some more goodies for the TT. So I am preparing my car for future mods.

Thats kind of what I want to do. I can tell you, if you dont' have a boost problem now, the addition of wonderbar and exhaust will give you one.

Youre going to have a tire problem too :D :D :D
