I'm relatively new to Corvettes. I bought a, '88 coupe last Fall.
I noticed some water on the rear carpet, but it might have ben from a leaking cooler. The car is garaged most of the time so I have not really had much experience with geting it wet other that washing it.
I have seen ads for drains for the hood latch, gas fill, and rear hatch in the popular parts and accessories catalogs. My question is are they something I should add? I don't really want to drill any holes if they are not necessary.

Welcome Brock,

I picked up my 86' last year and have not really seen any need for these drians.

When I wash it I just soak up the excess water in the corners of the hatch. It's never come through.

I installed those drains at the corners of my hatch, they are not really necessary, but they work well & easy to install.
I don't use the Vette in the rain--when I wash it, it doesn't drip down the side.

Drains

If you look closely, there is a drain hole in the collar arround the gas tank filler. You must keep the area fairly clear of debris. It doesn't hurt to take the hose nozzle up to it and clear the drain hose out every now and then. This is also where the weather stripping pours the excess water from the back hatch window. The people who designed this had their heads screwed on right!

I wouldn't punch or drill any holes in the body, your watertight integrity may be threatened.

I am hole free with my 88!!!! Just after washing reach into those areas and dry things off well. I heard those drains work but Im not into drilling holes in my car!!!
