I was having a rough running problem and found my #5 cyl spark plug was badly water fouled. I pulled off the intake and all looks ok there with the intake and the gasket. The intake is only 1 yr old so we aren't talking old gaskets either.

Prior to taking things apart I ran a compression check and found all cyls. had 210lbs of compression including no. 5 which has the problem cyl.

Is it possible to have a blown head gasket or cracked head and still have 210 lb compression ?????

Also is there any chart or way to determine what the compression ratio would be using the 210 lb figure ??

Thanks Roy

Ok the head is off and the head gasket looks fine. The head is going to the cyl head shop tomorrow and I'll have them test it.

Don't think theres anything wrong with the block

I had a similar problem with the '84. A head (if not both) was cracked, but the crack would only open up at about 210 degF. Above this temp the cooling system would over-pressurize.

Well the jurys back and the head has a crack. Luckly the shop had a double hump head with all new valves in stock and its in the garage now with the paint drying.

Should have it back together in a day or so.
