wifey bought a 92 roadster wit 13k on the clock. its cherry with the normal engine grime. i'd like to clean the engine but have heard the optic unit (distributor) is prone to moisture. whats the best method to clean the grime off the motor without screwing the electrics in the opti ?

Engine cleaning

Don't hose it. Not even with a plastic bag over the opti.
Some rags, a cleaner like Simple Green, and a few hours of elbow grease will work wonders.
Do a search using the tab above. There are too many horror stories.

on 92-94 I wouldn't hose it..

I've pressure washed mine many many times.. not problem but I have a 95' with the vented opti so that may be why.. or I'm just one lucky b/-\ZZtard...

thanks for info on cleaning opti unit. how about using wd-40 on the front of the engine to flush grime from the opti area?. it displaces water and cleans.

No Water

I just got my 93 running after thinking I could clean it up using the neighbors pressure sprayer to do the suspension. I have paid for a new ECM which I did not need. What I really needed was a new TPS. This after having every kind of diagnostic instrument ever invented used to check out my no start problem. I still have not got the cruise to work either. If someone spits within 100 yards of my car when the hood is up I will introduce them to Mr. Smith & Wesson. Do as suggested use a good cleaner lots of rags a shady spot and elbow power to clean the engine.:bang
