Opti replaced about 2 months ago. Off and on, I could smell coolant, but
no visible signs of leaking coolant . . . . . until today! The leak appeared to be dripping right from the bottom/middle of the pump where I noticed that particular bolt MISSING! JIMINY FREEGIN *%#@*%! :mad My great dealer mechanic forgot to replace that bottom bolt and suddenly it sprung a leak. Maybe I can replace the bolt and all will be well. Anyone know what size those water pump bolts are? And more importantly — can this leak be stopped by replacing the missing bolt? Thanks

I kind of doubt it. It probably has some kind of gasket material in there, or some form-a-gasket, and if water has made it past, whatever the seal WAS is now gone. If this was done by a shop even 2 months ago I'be be back there tossin a fit. Thats shoddy work.

Are you sure the leak is not from the pumps weep hole under the neck?

sorry to hear that....I know you didn't ask for my opinion, but I'm giv'in it anyhow.....I would take it back to that dealer that did the work....that's the kinda dealers that give the good ones a bad name. Maybe it was honest oversight, maybe not....but I would make them do right by you....you paid for it!!!! One would have to rationalize it may have been honest mistake, because it's very obvious it will leak, so maybe give the guy pushing the wrench a lil slak but let the front guy have it.....they are supposed to assist in quality control....which is everyones job for brand sake.....:)

Hate to burst your bubble, but if 1 of the six bolts that hold the WP on is missing,It would be a stream like a old cow p*ss'n on a flat rock!:D
I'd guess your going to find a bolt broken off in the block!!:eyerole:eyerole:eyerole

Yo Junk, the bolt at the very bottom/middle of the water pump -- is it one of
the shorter bolts or one of the longer bolts. Also, thankyou for the part numbers.
There did appear to be a "weak" stream, then it stopped. So I'm going to try replacing
the missing bolt and see what happens. Thats if it hasn't broken off as you suggested. Can't hurt, right?

I got the part #'s out of the GM Parts and Illustration Manuel#'s may have been superseded,;shrugBut the dealer should able to crossover if so!!:thumb

Donne........... I just flashed on something!!
If your talking about on the front bottom of the pump cover,Your "New Pump" is leaking!! there isn't supposed to be a bolt there!:thumb
That cover will fit 2-3 different LT1 pumps,depending if it's a Corvette,Camaro,Impala or Buick Roadmaster!!:beer

Take one of the bolts that is the same size and go to Home Depot or Ace, etc.. and match it up, just make sure and use a grade 8 or better.
