350 engine in a 60 - help!

hello all.

I have a '60 with a 350 engine. The problem i face is that the front motor mounting frame spans across the front of the motor between the block and the water pump. Another words, the water pump bolts go through the water pump and also hold the engine to the mounting rail. This setup needs one gasket between the motor mount frame and the block and another gasket between the mount frame and the water pump. When the engine is reved, it torques and twists these gaskets loose causing leaks. A possible fix i thought could be securing the motor ridgely to the frame or maybe finding a different motor mounting kit, if there is one. i hope i made myself understandable. Has anyone ever seen this problem?? Any ideas or comments would be greatly appreciatted.
Thanks.

Yup, fairly common problem, especially with 350's, although the same issue exists with the original engines. Best cure is to support the engine, remove the water pump, install new gaskets between the mount bracket and the block, bolt the engine mount bracket to the block at the water pump holes, and drill the bracket and the block for 3/8" press-fit dowel pins. Install the dowel pins, and re-install the water pump with new gaskets. The dowel pins will keep the mount bracket from moving relative to the block and breaking the gasket seal.

Welcome ptuner11

I love the pic of your vette! I especially like the soft-focus, it brings the vette forward as the center of attention. Nicely done!

Welcome to Corvette Action Center, we have friendly and helpful members and loads of info within the site. Come back often and tell us about you and your new vette.
