Is there a product to remove the typical water spots left on your glass over time? I'm talking about those stains left over an long period of time, not from the last wash job...
Was told that there is such a thing available, just don't know the name of it and where to get it?
thanks
:w

Mike,

I'm sure someone here will tell you about the system with the polish and the grinder that fits on your drill. These are very effective but you have to be careful since they can quickly get the glass really hot and you risk breakage if you don't follow the direcitons to a tee. If all you have are water spots, try a fine grit polishing compound instead and some good old elbow grease. Do the entire window and you will be amazed at how clear it is.

Regardless of what you use, polish the whole thing or it will have a wierd, inconsistent view from inside the car.

I used Zaino Glass Polish to get out spots that had been on my rear window for years and I did it by hand - very easy. I'm sure Meguiars or 3M make something similar.

I've also had good results using a clay bar and baking soda toothpaste :)

Hi, yoda's right, the baking soda toothpaste will do the job, If its really bad get a dremel tool and use the polishing bit with the baking soda paste
on low speed so you dont damage the glass
sherry:)

Soft Scrub also does a good job. It will clean the oxidation off of your wiper blades too so they don't chatter.

Try a boat store, I can't remember the name, but the boating industry has some stuff that will take old water spots right off the painted outdrives without messing up the luster of the paint and also the gelcoat. so I think it would work on glass just fine.

I've always had success with just some chrome polish and and some elbow grease. Had a guy at a detail shop tell me about it several years ago and it has worked well for me.

Try steel wool #0000 with your favorite glass cleaner. You can find this at any hardware store.

Wash your car after cleaning your windows in case pieces of broken steel wool come off the pad.

Good call Jack. I've used 0000 steel wool for years to clean overspray off of glass and chrome after a paint job. Here is a glass cleaning kit from Eastwood that sounds promising.

Here are other glass cleaning items from Eastwood.

Thanks everyone..........tried the polishing compound this morning, did "fair" but left a lot of water marks........will try some of your other ideas now.

Mike, any news on the waterspots? I'm waiting to see what works for you. I guess you're the guinea pig:D

Gman-no, I haven't had time to get back to her and try anything yet. While I was in an auto parts store Monday I asked, they recommended 2200 grit sandpaper !!!!!

PLEASE- DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME...

I tried it on a piece of garage door glass, good thing it was sacrificial glass cause they didn't know what they were talking about. REPEAT- DO NOT TRY using 2200 grit sandpaper.

Will have time early next week and will post what I find.

Entered my 81 into a local car show this weekend, while there I had 4 vendors try thier products on my rear glass to remove the water spots, as a test.

Only one product made the cut, so to speak. Duragloss 755 Nu-Glass , from Car Quest got the water spots off. It takes a lot of elbow grease, but they do come off. Spent about 1.5 hours to get 1/2 way done at the show, will finish the remainder later this week.
As a self test, I brought Bon Ami to the show with me, it didn't cut the spots nearly as well as the Duragloss 755 Nu-Glass did.
If you use this product, remember that you must apply a small amount to an area-say 1/4 teaspoon and apply MUCH pressure to an area apporx. 6 inches X 6 inches and rub like hell. Once the cream is dry, turn over the cotton cloth and wipe clean. A follow up with Windex will remove any cream left behind. My window looks sparkling new.(half the window that is)....
I am not affiliated with any of the above mentioned companies or thier products, just found something that works and wanted to pass it along here.
By the way, lil red took first place in my division !!!
;)

Congrats on your first place win.

It's also nice to hear that you found a product that will work on those stuborn water spots. Please take a minute to post your results in the Product Review section so others will be able to find it in the future.

Tom

Sorry Tom- I tried to navagate that section and couldnt figure it out- remember I'm computer stupid, it has to be more friendly for me to do it. Thanks,

I think I tried about everything before trying Zaino Glass Cleaner. Like all their products, it was easy to use and worked right the first time. Leaves you glass invisable! :cool
