Weatherstripping around hatch

After washing my car the other day, I finally got to get into the nooks and crannies of the car and found my weatherstripping on the hatch (right in the corner where the vertical piece meets the horizontal piece) is pretty much gone. It's bad enough that some water was dripping through onto the speaker area (yikes!).

Does anyone know how much I'm looking at to replace this? Any suggestions for where to have the work done (dealer, other type of service provider, can it be done by me?)? Any ideas on how I might be able to temporarily fix the problem? I'd like to do it right but I'd prefer to wait a few months if possible.

I saw the kit in one of the catalogs for about $100 for the hatch stripping. I'm just curious about labor.

As always, thanks for the input!

Kurt

Those corners are inherently weak and the first part of the hatch w/s to fail. There are plenty of new ones on ebay for much less than $100, just do a search on "corvette hatch" and quite a few will pop up. It's a fairly easy job, you can do it yourself. I did mine last year. The adhesive is available at your local auto parts store.

If your 95 is like the earlier models...the rear hatch weatherstripping is friction fit...You just need to remove the struts in order to get the stripping on.

Looks like the cheapest on Ebay is about $65. Thanks for the help!!!!

I'll let you know how it comes out.

Hatch weather strip

I splurged and bought one of the Corvette Videos (for 1995) on e-bay. One of the scenes is a workman hammering in the rear hatch seal with a rubber hammer. Likely took him 36 seconds to do the entire job.
There's enough flex in the glass that the corner point of failure often results from closing the glass by pushing other than in the rear center. The manual warns of this failure and cautions to use the middle of the glass (where the latch is) to close the lid.
Good luck.

Imccloud,
How much did the video for 95 cost you???

Was this on the owner's video? I just bought one off of Ebay too. I'll have to run back through it and see if I can find the scene.

My video cost about $20 after shipping. It's about an hour long. Pretty nostalgic. Trying doing an Ebay search with "1995 corvette" and you'll probably see the same guy selling them.

1995 Corvette video

I paid the same, $20, and really enjoyed it. The ZR-1 is also described and the seller advertized it as a "Dealer" version with ZR-1 included. Who knows?
Searching for '95 or 1995 Corvette revealled the source.
It was an original, not a copy, so I was pleased with the quality too.
There seemed to be a lot of them around. e-mail me if you can't find one.
