Newbee here. Just picked up a 74 454. What a treat for me. Anyhow... need to replace weatherstripping, and wondering what the best way to remove and install would be.

I bought my 69 this summer. Going to replace mine in a few weeks. I purchased my weatherstrip from The Last Detail (think its www.tld-corvette.com) and went to Autozone and got 3M release agent to soften and remove the old crud (I'll just use a screw driver to scrape. They sell some tools for this but I figure a screw driver should work fine) and a tube of 3M black adhesive for the new weatherstrip.
If you do yours sooner, let me know what you did and how it turned out.

Be sure you use the BLACK 3M adhesive. I had a spot that was coming undone on my '79 that made me take a closer look at all the weatherstripping. I saw many places where ugly yellow was rearing it's head. On the other hand, it is what made me notice the stripping pulling away in the first place, so I guess it does have that advantage.

Like BobK said, use the BLACK 3M adhesive not the YELLOW. Let the adhesive get a little tacky and then install the seal.

Did mine a while back, used the black 3M adhesive, and got my weatherstrip from www.corvette-rubber.com Lots of folks here at the CAC have highly recommended 'the last detail' though... you might try checking both places for the best prices. In my case, didn't have to worry about scraping the old stuff off... when the previous owner had the car repainted, the weatherstrip was removed, and there was none there to start with (for me!). Not too tough a job, even for a relatively novice 'mechanic' like me.

And welcome to the CAC !!!!

The Last Detail is usually the cheapest and it is manufacturered by Corvette Rubber.I like the clear adhesive but Ive noticed you can only find it at paint stores.I dont like the black because if you goof it looks sloppy. The clear doesnt show mistakes.
