I'm installing new carpeting and discovered the passenger floor is wet. The jute was a little damp when I removed it; but, after recent rains there is clean water on the floor.

Any ideas guys? I should would like to finish the interior.

I feel your pain! I have been driving without front carpet for some time because I have not been able to eliminate all the leaks yet and I don't want to ruin more carpet and rust out the floor boards. There is a book out about dealing with this called "Corvette water leak and wind noise solutions" by Michael J Davis (try www.fetchbook.info for best price). Here is the skinny on it: 1) Be sure your weatherstripping is in good condition, 2) Properly adjust your doors, windows and t-tops (see factory service manual or find a competent shop, good luck with this one:eyerole ). 3) Use a hose trickling water on various areas (windshield is a good place to start) to find specific leaks. I have found holes in the windshield wiper area where the factory putty seal had failed. This fixed part of the problem, but as I said, I have not been able to get the car completely dry yet. Good Luck, Cris

Have you eliminated the heater core as a passenger side problem?
Heidi

Clear water is usually rain. From the heater core it's green. Muddy water is road splash-up.

Thanks for the good advice!
I'm going to take a good look at the cowl area tonight. Do they say anything about the vents in that book?

I don't recall anything about the vents in particular, but try letting a hose trickle in a suspected area for a few minutes. If it stays dry, move the hose a little. If water comes in, let the area dry and try again later with less water until you can isolate the exact place it is coming in. Wish I could be more help but as I said, mine's still wet. Let me know what you find. Cris

I have found that the top support for the windshield has rust pieces falling off and it appears that there is a leak where the T-tops meet, it follows the trim to next to the steering wheel and drips there to the floor.

I now have a garage and never drive in the rain so I have put off replacing the windshield support til later, engine work comes first, rear main has a drip of oil once in awhile.
