So I took the vette out today and I noticed that both the drivers side and passenger site carpet is damp.

Doesnt smell like anything, and it isnt absolutely drentched.

What is this?

Have you been driving in the rain or washing the car?
Has the car been in absolutely dry conditions for at least a week or two??

I have only had it 3 days. It hasnt rained here and I havent washed it yet, but it was washed the day I bought it. That was Wednesday.

When you wash it next time, sit inside the car and have someone run the water hose all over the car. Look for leaks very carefully.
Let us know how that goes and then we'll go from there.

Im wondering if its clogged fender drains. But I cant figure out how to get the kick panels off. Im afraid of snapping them in 2.

Thast what I was thinking if the water test showed nothing.
Not sure on the 76 but there should be screw(s) at the top. This is where the Assembly Manual comes in handy.

Yeah, I ordered one but it wont be here. for a week or so.

I found the screw and removed it, but now I cant get the trim off so I can take it out. My drill cant handle it. Its stripping the screws.

I hate life.

You hate life??

Dude, you own a Corvette!!! life is great!

Your not the first or the last to have water on the floor of your vette...lift the seats out and start removing your carpet...you need to look at the pan or floor of your car.up to about 75 i think they made fiberglass floors, then went to steel...with leaking t-tops and such, water rusts the pan and the seats fall thru it....t-tops are where i would look first , then the seal around the windshield...run some water on it with interior trim removed and see where its gaining entry. relax and enjoy the ride, your gonna get to know your car better than any car you have ever known. your a hero in many folks eyes, your saving a piece of our automotive history by purchasing and keeping it in good order...another vette saved from the gallows of the junk yard!

show off your car here, lets see some fotos..i bet its a sweet ride.

please keep us informed of your problem...look in our education areas and find threads about leaks...you will find a wealth of information here that is second to non.

Well, I wanted to check the fender drains first because it seemed the easiest thing to check. But Im going to have to borrow a better drill or something. I cant get the sill trim off.

Is there an alternative way to checking this for clogs?

do you mean drains on the rear deck? they access from inside the cab behind the seats...remove the plastic panel and you will see where they connect to the deck drains...they flow out above the rear tire in the wheel well.

No, I mean in the front. I cant remove the kickpanel because of the trim.

i dont know about the front...im thinking my '73 dont have them....but i learn more about my car here every day...this is why i say to keep us informed of your progress. so others like me and you can learn from others experiences.
Thats a great looking ride ...your well on your way of turning some heads this summer.

Thanx.

Ive read that this is most likely the cause, barring rot in the windshield frame or floor boards, etc. Seems like a lot of people had this issue and when they cleaned out the drains, the problem went away.

Ill have to see what kind of drill my neighbor has. Mine sucks. :L

Skip the drill....use a screwdriver to keep from stripping the screws out.
If they are stuck use some penertrating oil first. After you get them out try to clean up the holes and get some new screws.
Not sure how it is on your car but you could try running a coat hanger down there and see if that opens things up.

I just bought a 77 that looks just like yours (same color, only not as nice as yours) and I have the same problem. I think it's the drains or windshield. Guy I bought it from told me no leaks. :mad Two weeks after I bought it water is on the floor after a heavy rain. I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. (The 77 doesn't get into the garage so a plastic tarp over the whole car fixed it temporarily!) Let us know how it goes - I will be watching with great interest.:)
