Looks like TI0I8S and 7110572 upside down. Just curious.

My NCRS spec guide doesn't show a suffix of "TI" for any SB 327 used on Corvette from '62 thru '67.
Maybe it's from a year later than '67? I don't have a '68-'82 NCRS spec guide to check

This is the engine in my 1967. When I purchased it in 2003 the seller was upfront about the NOM. The engine block was replaced around 1988 for some reason that he was not aware of (he bought it in 1997). The top of the engine (intake, heads, distributor, etc.) is "correct" but something very wrong happened down below. Interestingly, the VIN is numbers matching although the numbers are upside down!! Again, he was upfront about this bizarre stamping. And I guess "restamping" goes back a long way even if botched like this one. My concern was that the car run well and it has to this day. But the numbers intrigued me. Hence this post.

After some detective work here is what I have found. I managed to get the casting number. It is 3789817. It looks like a 1962 passenger car (S=Impala) block, 4-bbl, 10.5:1 compression, a range of 210 to 275hp, and with Powerglide. That would explain its lack of pep but also its dependability.

I suspect the engine code is original (don't think the VIN was stamped in 1962) and the rebuilder added his own little touch...the VIN upside down.

I wish these cars could talk.

Boy you are not the only one. When I was young I bought a 60 it had a 327-300 in it I drove it like that for a time then put in a +.060 283 with the dual quad set-up and the "Duntov" cam. Next was a 301 with a single Holley and the last was a DZ 302 fresh from the local Chevy dealer in 69.
So you can see I am amazed when I hear about "all origional numbers matching" on anything other then a powerglide car. ;LOL

I believe Mikey is correct. A 327CI Tonawanda block used in a full sise 1962 Chevy with a powerglide transmission.

Ray,
I've come to that conclusion. No disappointments. It was sold and bought as NOM and runs just fine. But it's nice to know what is under the hood.

It's a bit of a hybrid/bastard with double hump heads for some reason but you know I can't complain. The darn thing is just like the Energizer Bunny: it keeps going and going. And what more can you ask for short of NCRS and others who have more performance needs. Summer is passing quickly. Time to drive and forget about numbers.
