I know why they make chocolate AND vanilla but I'm going to ask anyway. What do you guys think of this white top? I really think black would look better on this car. I'd like to hear your opinions and if somebody has a black C-1 with silver coves and a black top I'd love to see a picture. By the way, lest you have remorse for this great looking top possibly meeting it's demise, it ain't so great looking in real life! Thank God the rest of the car is!

Terry,

Sorry that my hand was a little shakey tonight.

I like the white top with the whitewalls but the black looks good too. Either/or in my opinion. It's what you like that counts.

I like the white. It constrasts against the black and matches the whitewalls.

Besides that, I don't think it matters much either way. As we briefly discussed at the show on Sat, just how often are you going to have the top up anyway? It's a fair weather car and I don't see you planning on having it out in the rain needing the top up. Hell, if it was my car and my second Vette in the "collection" it wouldn't need a top at all as it would NEVER be out in anything less than perfect weather so the top would never be up anyway.

BTW, I loved your "required number of Corvettes" formula you told us on Sat.
:)

Can I retract my first statement?

After seeing the photo Tom made (excellent job Tom)

I would say the black actually looks more "Classic" more "finished" And I think it should be black .

Yes, the black does look great also
:)

but I stick with my statement, I don't see Terry needing use of the top approx 98% of the time he will ever be driving the car so while the black looks great, so does the white, so why change it?

Terry, is the white the original color top? I think i'd choose what ever is the original proper color.

I agree with your assesment and thanks for putting into words what I couldn't quite come to grips with. I do believe it is more classic and finished looking in black.

Thanks to Tom for the idea of coloring in the top on the photo.

As for the Tinman moniker, the answer is yes and no. I am a partner in a mechanical contracting company (Proud employers of Sheet Metal LU#19) that has a complete sheet metal shop, coil line, plasma cutter, etc. but that is not how I became known as Terry the Tinman. That's a different story, and quite humorous. Here goes.

I collect and operate O-gauge trains. One day I was going to paint a building to look like it had a metal roof on it and decided to open a VERY old can of chrome paint. Well, to my surprise when I pried the lid up it virtually exploded. The lid hit the ceiling and back down onto the work table faster than you can say "holy s___!!" Luckily it didn't get paint on any of my locomotives or rolling stock but the paint went everywhere. So I posted a message on a message board similar to this one that is dedicated to O-Gauge trains to warn them to be careful with this kind of paint. REading the label AFTER the fact revelaed that there was a warning about holding the lid securely when opening it. I went on to tell everyone of my surprise later when I went upstairs and was told by my wife to go look in the mirror. My face was covered with chrome paint! One of my fellow collectors replied and said "So are you telling us that you looked like the Tinman?" and I've been Terry the Tinman ever since. I should have taken pictures. :D

Barry,

There's no real way of knowing what color top came on the car. It's strictly a matter of preference. I expeect to have the top up in the spring and fall. Nothing like getting out early on a crisp fall morning for a nice long ride, stopping for lunch and then dropping the top for the trip home. :Steer Also, some of those spring and fall eveneing shows can leave you a little chilly with the top flopped. The top has some bad stains on it and it's just not acceptable.

Terry, i stand corrected
:)
besides i kind of figured you were going to reserve the '60 for the "warmer" weather trips and not worry about the top too much, especially when you mentioned the other day how difficult it was to get in the car with the top up
LOL
the black top DOES look great though

I like the white. I agree it sets off the whitewalls. The black looks kinda bland.
