Do these numbers make any sense to anyone? They are on the bottom of my differential. " AWW364E2" I can't find a code book with them in it.:(

The "AW" code was used circa '68-'75 for a 3.08:1 posi unit... the following "W" indicates the Warren, Michigan mfg. plant, next three digits indicate the day of the year (Dec. 30th or Dec. 29th if Leap Year), "E" indicates Eaton Posi unit, "2" indicates 2nd work shift. I can't tell the year without a casting date, but guess it's later than the 1970 model year by the Julian calendar method used for the "day of the year" code. Possibly JohnZ can jump in to decipher exactly.

John A.

"AW" was a 3.08 Posi in '68, '69, '71, and '73-'75; the casting number and date are on the driver's side of the carrier, near the front flange of the strut rod bracket.

As usual, JohnZ provides his great info regarding location of the axle casting number and date, and this must be checked to positively determine the model year of the unit.

Although JohnZ omitted 1972 as a possible, I would inject that I believe an "AW" (3.08:1) rear axle code was probably also used in 1972, even though the listing of an "AW" code does NOT appear in normal 1972 Corvette data from Chevrolet, and no other 3.08:1 axle code was published for the 1972 model-year that I'm aware of. However, Chevrolet DID publish the 3.08:1 axle as an available power-team combination.

You guys are great. Thanks for the help. I'll look for the other dates as soon as possible. I can see buy your info. that I've got a LOT TO LEARN. Thanks again.
