Im wanting to build a 1977 Corvette and would like your opinion on it. I want to put a 1980 front and rear on it and a L-88 hood, and jet black paint. In the interior i want to put aftermarket racing seats covered in black leather with a carbon fiber dash and door panels along with the storage doors . white auto-meter guages and a alpine head unit. and a white faced cover for the air controls. under the hood i want a Ram Jet 502 BB backed up by a T-10 4 speed. i want sport brakes and aluminum calipers and a VB&P suspinsion kit.i am undicided on the rims at the time though. I am about to turn 16 and am looking for a good 77' for my car. these are the things i am going to do to one when i get one but i would like to here some feedback on what everybody thinks of it. like what is good and bad and what i could do different.

Thanks in Advance,
John Paul Pearce

Sounds pretty good. Some things to keep in mind, however; have you priced out what all these things will cost? They are not cheap, and if you can't do the work yourself, they get really expensive really fast. The RamJet 502, for example, will probably cost you more than the car itself. Not only do you buy the big block, but the front suspension needs to be changed for the motor. Essentially, take what you have budgeted for a project and double it. That usually ends up being closer to the real number of dollars leaving your wallet. That said, I am totally not trying to discourage you, as I bought my car when I was 18, and got neck-deep into modifying it before I really knew what I was doing. Whatever you decide, learn from the wisdom that can be had on this forum. Knowledge can save you from making many of the rookie mistakes I made. Good luck!

As long as you are talking about a dream machine I think I would go with a 5 speed or 6 speed. Just to help out when you get out of town. This is what I would like to do to mine one of these days.

Rather than buy a '77 and make it look like an '80, why not just buy an 80?

I agree, why convert a '77? Just buy an '80 to start with.

John: That's what I like, a true "Vette" lover. Just how big is your pocket book??????????? As long as you can afford all of this, then go for it. Differences & personallity is what makes car-building fun! Sounds like something a 16 year old would like to do. Keep at it & don't give up. I've got a 17 yr old & he's always wanting to do stuff like that to mine. Take care & good luck on your future project. Dave

Hey: Sounds like a "Hip-Hop" Corvette!

Come on guys, he's obviously in love with the Flat back glass, he probably knows that the 77 had had the most options of any flat back glass car and that it was the only year to have a factory luggage rack that doubled as a t top holder. He probably also likes the large round tack and 160 mph speedo!!

Saying all that, and owning a 77 myself with a 82 front end. I would have to say Last ride was correct with EVERYthing ha said especially with the suspension stuff. (money also) Eddie 70 was also right about the trans, if you like to drive on the highway at least.

Hey, I can't say I don't dream about this type of stuff also, the Corvette has made most of us a LOT light in the wallet!!! I have two and a half Vettes and I am trying to build my dream vette out of 1 and a half of them!!! SLOW process!! Dont plan on driving soon unless you have tons of$$$$ to go with Vette Dreams!!!

Good luck, This forum will help you with so many problems that come up you will be amazed.

The main thing to keep in mind is that it is your "dream machine." Be prepared though, to hear people tell you that they would do it differently, and listen intently as they do, but in the end all that matters is what pleases you. That's all that matters.

It's all that really should matter, but all too often we get caught up in trying to please others. The whole idea behind owning and perhaps modifying cars is the personalize them to your own tastes.
Dreams

But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

~ W. B. Yeats (1865–1939)

Dream on... Build on brother! :upthumbs

I like your idea, in fact reminds me of my own car quite a lot. You can check out my car HERE
