What does Quick Configure do? (DIC menu option)

I was trying to get the codes from my car when I messed up the process. I kept the Options button down then when Config Options came up I hit the Options button again and the DIC displayed Quick Configure. Then after a couple seconds it displayed QC Code ###### (a six digit number). I hit Reset hoping to go back to the previous menu but it wiped out all the numbers so I quickly just turned the key back to off. Of course I was curious now so I went back to take a second look. I would swear the number it displayed the second time was different from the first time I saw it. Anyway the number is 424421. What the heck is this all about?

Don't play lottery numbers you get on Friday the 13th. ;)

Hopefully, C4C5Specialist will be along to answer your question. If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say that this "Quick Configure" number is a code aligning your systems to your main on-board computer for diagnostic recognition purposes (ie, allowing the component systems to communicate with one another, and post codes when there is a problem.) But as I said, that's only a guess. Personally, I get worried when I hear about folks poking around in the computer protocol/command structure of their C5-

I wouldn't tempt fate- leave it the way it is for now, and let C4C5Specialist speak to this when he gets back online.

Hi there,
That is a configuration command used by engineering.
Do NOT continue, as this will mess up certain functions.
I personally messed up one car by trying to use this function and it was not pretty.

Thanks for the info. I'm not going near that one again. I just hope I didn't do anything to it when I hit the reset button by accident. I didn't press anything else and just turned the key to off at that point. It's been driving fine with no problems.

Is that why my vette idles rough, doesn't start and blows green/blue smoke?

:L

I've seen the function before and never used it. I didn't get it either (I'm not an engineer).
