What does this number mean?

During a frame on restoration of my 64 roadster during the last year. I keep seeing white grease pen numbers throughout the car. Behind each door panel there was the number 263 R. On the lower radiator support was 263. On the passenger fire wall was the number 263.
My car was born on March 20th, 1964. And the production # is 13766.
Does the number 263 mean it was the 263rd corvette built in March?
If anyone knows, it would be great.

Jack -

That's the Body Shop Job Number, which was assigned when the body was scheduled for production; that's the number it was tracked by until the VIN was assigned and affixed after the body left the Paint Shop. That number referenced back to the original dealer order, and on the daily Body Shop Run Sheet it identified the options ordered on that particular car that affected the body build. Those numbers went up to 500 and went back to 001.

Thanks for that Great bunch of infomation. Now how can I use that infomation to track the history of this car since the elderly person I bought it from can't remember were he bought it. I also tried a VIN search but no luck. And I'm sure there is no build sheet to be found.
