What happened to this 1987 Red/Red vert?

I'm waxing nostalgia here. Back in 1989 I had a second job as a valet at a restaurant in Lexington Massachusetts. One evening I valeted a 1987 Corvette Callaway roadster. It was bright red with a red interior and a white top. If I recall correctly it was a manual transmission because the owner asked if I could drive a stick. At the time I was driving a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner with a 440 and four speed so of course I told him I did. I could have that transmission story mixed up with another car I valeted but I think it was the Callaway. Anyway, I used to remember the Callaway production number of this car from the console plaque but all these years later I can't. It might have been 64 or 74 but I forget. I think it was a 1987 model because I don't recall Dymags. Anyway, I carefully parked the car and kept a close eye on it all evening. I often think about that car and where it might be today. Does this car sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks!

That's a great story of a Callaway memory! Thanks for sharing it!

Hopefully someone from our Callaway group will recognize this one and fill in the details.

Jane Ann,

I'm glad you enjoyed my recollection. I'm a car guy from way back and have(had) a good memory. Bothers me that I can't remember the production number anymore. Of course how can one forget such a car?!! Someone that was in the Boston area back in the late 1980's must remember the car. I mean, how many red on red with white convertible top Callaways where in that area then? I'm still shocked that the owner gave it to a valet. I valeted for about a year and a half and that was my favorite car on the job. I do recall getting tipped once just to keep an eye on a turbo Porsche that the owner parked himself. But I'd love to know more about that Callaway like where its been over the years.

GREAT Story :upthumbs

What was more fun to park, the Callaway, or the Roadrunner ;shrug

Here is a webpage that may help with some of the details. As 89onlyZ51 stated, NACA's were only on 1987's, but not all of them ;)

Thanks for the welcome. I've lurked for several years. Last night I got the bug to finally ask around about this 1987 Callaway roadster. Figured it was worth a shot.

I treated customer's cars with great care. Didn't even change the seat position. That was very tough when valeting a short persons car! So, even though I was a gearhead I wouldn't take liberties with that Callaway. It got carefully parked and carefully returned. My Road Runner on the other hand received a regular and routine flogging! Great car to bang the gears on but pretty much like driving a pickup truck when compared to a Corvette.

I've been all over the internet, including the Callaway owners group site, and looked at numerous classifieds too all in hopes of running across mention of this car.

Is there a production breakdown of these cars based on colors?
