I was cleaning the frame on my 87 Vette and I noticed that the frame is painted red... looks like with a brush.. on the cross member between the radiator and the motor, on the front side of the frame... This had to have been done at time of manufacture because you can't get a brush in there now... Does any one know what this means??

On a nearly 20 year old car, anything is possible but I can't imagine someone using a paint brush on an assembly line. I could more easily believe that at some time in the past some component(s) were removed for service or replacement which left room for a previous owner to clean and paint part of the frame and crossmember.

This is a weird one. I just checked my car and the crossmember isn't painted. I'm wondering why anyone would do that.

This means We have a Mystery at CAC!!!;LOL ;LOL :D Dono,But I seen at Times Weird painted area's on Different car's That I wondered why it was done that way!! Maybe they stopped the line for something and the red paint meant a code of some sort!! :upthumbs junk!!

what is realy strange about this is that there is a small hole that is holding a plastic clip and part of a plastic ziplock bag attached to the same area.. there is no paint on either the clip or the bag... The car was special ordered and maybe this is how they made sure it was as specified..... the car has only 78K miles on it

The build sheet attached to the top of the gas tank would have been used to specify the exact equipment/options on your car. If this clip and plastic is attached to a crossmember or component which could have been replaced, then that might explain that maybe it contained inventory and/or shipping information.
It sounds like you are hoping that the details you mention are indiciative of a one of a kind car built to unique specifications. Although that would be great for you as the current owner, I doubt whether that is really the case.

this is all on the front side of the cross member and it is welded in...This car was special built for the orginal owner with the Z 52 package and the GM-1 rear gear (2.59ratio) its never been wrecked or modified... It's just got me courious...
