Hi all!
I just finished fixing the dash in my 85. What a mess the old owner made of the plastic and the wiring! He had put an aftermarket radio in it. It had a Bose system. I'm not quite sure why you'd want to remove the factory Bose system but he did! I got to clean all the cracks and crevises. Looking good now!

Does anyone know what that little 1/4x1/4 window is over the left upper side of the speedo? Looks like a sensor of some kind? I can't find anything in the owners manual about it.
Thanks
Joe

That would be the photosensor for the dash. The brighter it is outside, the brighter the dash display.

Good call Nitronick. I have a question. Has anyone tried to adjust the brightness of the LED's with the knob in the day time? I am thinking right now that mine doesn't dim, although at night it dims fine.

Dimming

In my '95 the dimmer only works when the head lights are on. So during the day the dash is full bright. At night the brightness depends on how dark it is as well as where the dash illuminator is adjusted. Is yours the same?

dash dimmer

Thanks!!!
Mystery solved!!! I've not had the chance to drive the car since I got it. Never having had a digital dash car I'd say that makes sence to have it full bright during the day. It's been apart for the most part. Now I know!!!

Well, almost.

It senses how bright it is and adjusts the brightness of the dash. If it is a full on sun no cloud day then yes, the dash is going to be full on bright. If it is sorta cloudy, or the sun is going down, it dims the dash down. If you don't have your lights on, you cannot control this.
Once you turn your headlight on, the sensor is taken out of the circuit. You then control the brightness with the knob.

That does make sense acutally.
