I am looking to replace my battery in my 1972 Vette. Checked out the Optima and the Sears Gold. Any good suggestions? :)

I put an Optima red top in my 64 over 2 years ago and it has been trouble free. The next battery I need for any of my cars will be the same.

I am using an Optima Yellow Top. From what I understand, the Optima batteries are in a league of their own in the car/marine battery world. In any case, I am totally satisfied with it.

You can get a terminal with a knob on it that shuts off the battery with a quick twist. It'll make any battery last much, much longer. Sometimes I go for weeks without driving my car and I never have a dead battery anymore.

The best battery was K-Mart with a Lifetime (not prorated warranty), my dad put one in my car in 1976, for 25 years I got a new battery for free anytime I needed one.

Good point, Koop. I installed a battery disconnect switch, and it works great. I do have an electrical drain somewhere, and the disconnect switch is priceless!

Ive thought about a disconnect before but its to big of a P.I.T.A. to reset the stereo presets and eq.

The "green knob" disconnect switch is available in a version with a fused bypass to keep memory circuits alive when the main connection is open. If you can't find it anywhere else, Griot's Garage has it (www.griotsgarage.com).

I have Optima red tops in both my '74 coupe and my '01 S-10 Crewcab. They do have both sets of terminals.

i put an optima yellow top (deep cycle) in my 78 a year ago and it's been great. i only get to use the car on the weekends, and it is always attached to a computerized battery tender when not being driven. worth the money in my opinion, and i agree in a league of their own.

for what it's worth, my mechanic swore off diehard batteries several years ago for several reasons: they weren' the same quality as they once had been, and they seemed to generate too much heat on their own.

in my opinion, i would much rather have a gel cell inside the car sitting at my back than one loaded with sulfuric acid and the associated fumes, but then that's just my opinion!

Compare price vs warranty time. Optima batteries are nice, but I got a better deal, price vs warranty, at my local Advance Auto.

Besides, who sees the battery except you? Or do you go to a show and open up the internal door behind the seat, to show off your battery?

I should have known about the fusible link option since I bought my father-in-law that exact part for his 1970 Charger for Christmas.

I use the RED top in mine......no troubles at all...
