What is the Opinion on GAS

I am interested to know if people have a preference on gas brands. I have been using BP Amaco premium. I am pleased with it and am reluctant to put just any brand in there. For year’s mechanics have told me to use Amaco premium is great for keeping the engine clean. I don’t really know but I am sure someone here does. Cheers
 
I use Mobil premium. I think it may be possible that in our modern day of fuel injection; unless you really use a poor gas, you may not be able to tell the difference?

Oh boy. Ok, a little known fact is that oil companies share their gas with other oil companies to save on delivery costs. So your local Mobile might be buying gas from BP because BP has a refinery closer to your local Mobile than mobile does. And BP may buy gas from a Mobile refinery because that local BP station may be closer to the mobile refinery.

So the fact of the matter is, there's really no way to determine where your gas is really coming from.

I used to own a C store and we were Philips 66. However I was told that when the refinery makes a batch of gas they formulate it to the specs of the company they are selling to. I know Chevron advertises "Techron" as their special additive. I think the law would require them to have that in there if they advertise it. However your point is well taken who the hell knows. All premium name brand gas is fine... I think Chevron is the best though. Techron seems to be the one additive that actually does something to clean your fuel system. Just my opinion, but if there is a Chevron near, I usually go for that over other gas stations.

Gasoline, is gasoline, is gasoline...the only difference is the additives different companies put in it...what you should do is alternate between 3 or 4 of the name brands every couple tank fulls.
 
The really controlling criteria is how fast the stations turn their gas over. The longer it sits in an underground tank, particularly a tank that is only partially full, the more chance that condensation will develop in the tank and be introduced into the gas.

About 20 years ago I saw a study generated after the name brand stations started beating on the discount companies on quality when these companies started cleaning their clock on price. As I recall, the study was done by the State of California and their conclusion was that the gas was being produced by a handful of refineries, that cleaning additives were being added to all of the gas and that they only real concern was water being introduced in the gas at low volume stations from condensation.
 
Looks like I'll be getting gas at 'high volume' gas stations from now on.
 
I use the cheapest regular pump gas I can find. Those are always high volume stations in my area. There is as much as a .20 cent difference, and my cars have always run well.

I also run 87 octane at the track :) Bring on the flames ;LOL

I prefer Chevron also, but any gas is better than no gas at all.:L

I don't think we have Chevron here in Chicago.
 
Yes I work at a gas station. Everyone thinks it is best to get gas right after a tanker delivers. WRONG, it is best to wait about an hour to two hours, because when dumping the fuel it stirs up any crud that might be in the tank, water or what not. And my vette is picky, if it doesnt get BP premium gas it runs like poopy.

Best Gas

Sunoco 94 is what we use around here in high performance engines. It costs maybe $2-$4 more to fill the tank. Little to pay to keep the knock gremlins away. Have ready many articles about the computers pulling back the power when they detect knock. It's my old favorite Sunoco for me.

I got a high performance engine, low compresion, and I could quote the manual for the 86, but let's just say it says it's a waste of money to run high octane fuel. And there have been many threads discussing the FACT that lower octane = better milage and performance if you can run it. Now I know higher compression engines can't, but I can, and in case you missed it, I'm a tenth from 11's without a final tune on 87 pump.

Vettefan, you got problems, your car does not require Hi-Test! East coast term there

The manual says you should use at least 91, and with the Hypertech chip I added I am 99% sure it says nothing less then 93, although I might be wrong.

All I know is what I read in the papers. Halverson and K&N support what I said and that is good enough for me no matter how funny you think it is.

I'm with you... In the Northeast its Ultra 94 from Sunoco.... :cool
