It sits right in front of my carb on top of the intake manifold. It looks like some kind of pressure release valve. If you were to remove the bolt that is right under the vacuum line you could pivot it up like a lever. The vacuum line is not hooked up and hasn't been since I've owned it. Someone suggested it might be an EGR valve but it's nowhere near the exhaust and has no visible connection to it. Another suggestion was an older style PCV valve but I've got one on each valve cover. I'd like to remove it permanently because I cannot replace the fuel filter in the carb without removing the carb, this thing is in the way. Thanks in advance!

PS I'd like to include a picture but there is an 83KB limit and I can't seem to make my pictures that small.

Go to pcworld.com and download a free utility called irfanview. It is a great utility to resize photos. Good luck :beer

That looks like an EGR valve to me. Dont know whether or not you can do without it. I'm sure an expert will chime in. :beer
P.S. I put a polished chrome intake manifold on my 74 and didnt put the EGR on.

That's definitely an EGR valve, but Corvette 454's didn't have them until 1973; if your car is a '72, someone swapped the intake for a later one.

Thanks for all the help. This forum is the best! This is just one more mystery for this car. It's got a 72 VIN, 71 paint and interior color codes and now a 73 engine. Maybe it's many different cars put together, who knows, and I really don't care. It's a blast to drive and never fails to turn heads. That's what counts in my book.

Yeh, A few more years and you'll qualify for Johnny Cash's autombile song.

"You might say I picked it up straight from the factory"
"One part at a time" ;LOL
