So, I finally got around to changing my transmission fluid.

Well, this was rolling around in the pan.

I have NO CLUE what this part is and it doesn't seem to belong to the tranny. I couldn't find a place for this in the vave body. It looks like a shipping plug- but I don't know. The car has the original TH350 tranny.

Wow Johnny,You may have serviced the tranny for the first time!!:D:D:D
That is a valve that floats at the bottom of the dipstick tube to keep fluid from being forced out of the dipstick tube if it gets over heated and pushes the dipstick up!!(Rarely ever Happens!!) Some look a little different than that one with a small shaft made onto them that gos up the tube about 1 1/2 inches!!Most guys never put them back, you have to put a Little grease on them to get them to stay put till you get the pan back on!! Don't worry about it,It will be alright without it!!:upthumbs

Thanks Jesse!!!!!

I had heard about that piece- but have never seen one. At least, no Vette I've ever owned has still had it! I'm going to bag and label that piece. I think it has a story to tell should I ever sell the '80.

Lots of OEM stuff still on my <50k mile barn find... for example, the original label is still on the drive shaft. :chuckle

Too bad the tank sticker ran off at some point- that would have been nice to see and have.
