What is this???

On the passenger side of the engine on an 1981 Corvette there is a sensor which screws into the head just below the exhaust manifold (between the last two cylinders). Two wires go from this sensor to the starter harnest. Could someone please tell me what this sensor is for?

I checked a wire diagram from a haynes manual there is a "idle stop"sensor with two light green wires running to it, probably an electrical "fast idle" circut to help in engine warm up
