What kind of Paint Stripper do you use to take off the paint from a fiberglass hood? (not a corvette hood) its off a 1991 Cavalier Z-24. Also where do you get this...? Home Depot?....

I think I remember somebody saying you use aircraft paint stripper and you use vinegar and water as the stabilizer.

Don't do it ! media blasting is the oly way to keep the solvents out of the new finnish . Vinegar ect ect ..... Wives tails ! If you choose to use strippers anyway just remember when it bubbles back though your new paint you were warned. Good luck

um?

not sure if you understood me ok...this is to take the paint off...I have used this before on corvette fiberglass headlight bezels and it works fine as others have also done this and is where I learned...not quite sure what you meant by bubbling through new paint? there won't be any stripper or stablizer on the fiberglass as you are suppose to etch, re-etch, many coats of primer, lots of sanding...this of course all after you strip the paint off.

my question was just i guess if you could use the same kind of stripper as used on a corvette.

sorry for the confusion.

Actually... Vinegar is an acid, which is opposite of paint stripper. In return it equalizes the surface to be painted. However for it to work properly you need some experience in stripping & need to know the proper measurments of products to use.

thanks...

Yep I got it working just fine....after some more reading....and only bad thing....I just found out the hood had been repainted so its looking like I gotta strip off 2 paint coats....bummer..ahhhh

Hey good luck to ya and yes I did understand. plastic media blasting is the only reliable method to remove paint from fiberglass that will not effect the new paint. But whatever obviously you know more than me so have at it.
