What oil filter do you use in your C5?

About time for MY first oil change in the C5.

What filter are you guys running?
(Im lowered, so does that keep me from using the K&N with the removal nut on the end?)

I run the Mobil 1 filter with Mobil 1 oil in all of my vehicles even my 4 stroke out board. I change the filter every 5000 miles and drop the oil every 10,000.
Outboad is changed once a year..................

I use the K&N oil filter on mine. I've gotten excellent oil analysis results using this filter on many different cars. It flows extremely well, which is very critical if you drive at full throttle quite often. The Mobil 1 oil filter does not flow very well at all, so if you drive it hard, you'll see higher engine wear in your oil analysis when using this filter.

this is why i stick with GM filters because you know they are not going to use a filter that would cause them warranty problems and i am sure the have more test miles on their filters than other manf.

ford filters have the filter bypass built into the filter where chevy filters have the bypass built into the filter adapter bolted to the block. that is why you never use a ford filter if you use a remote filter adapter and you do not want a filter bypass. also the more pressure drop the better the filtration because the pores in the filter material are smaller so it is a trade off. since you are looking at the oil pressure AFTER the filter in your car it does not make any difference in the pressure drop. the pressure your engine bearings see is what important. that is why blocking the oil filter bypass is important if you use a heavy weight oil because the thick oil will not pass thru the filter till it is warm. 0W or 5W-30 is you best bet for street driven machines unless you are using a oil pan heater.

Just changed the oil in mine last week, 5w-30 Mobil 1 and a M1-107 Mobil 1 filter.

I read an interesting article not long ago about filters. Mobile1 & Purelator were rated as the best, I don't remember them testing a K&N. I suspect that the better filtration causes the lower oil pressure. JMO. I use Mobil1 oil and filter on everthing I own. While talking with a Mobil1 rep in Sturgis, I was told that if you use their filter and oil their tests show no problem up to 9000 miles.

I (retired) from GM engineering and saw many engines run & tore down with 100000 mi. and never changed the Mobil 1 they just changed the filter and topped of the oil. There was never any measurable amount of wear in any engines they ran on the road,testrack or dyno. In most overall driving your just wasting your money on filters just change the oil when the oil moniter tells you to and change the filter.

I (retired) from GM engineering and saw many engines run & tore down with 100000 mi. and never changed the Mobil 1 they just changed the filter and topped of the oil. There was never any measurable amount of wear in any engines they ran on the road,testrack or dyno. In most overall driving your just wasting your money on filters just change the oil when the oil moniter tells you to and change the filter.

i have seen the same results from mobil about no measurable wear in 250,000 miles of use with just filter changes BUT they do not recommend you try that. with the new engines there is no gasoline dilution of the oil and that was a big problem before FI. i do all my cars that way,change mobil 1 5W-30 once a year and new filter every 4000 miles.
